So.... was Max trained like a child soldier or a child performer like the Jackson 5, or something in between?

Jos's own father was in the army, I can imagine him being a bit of a drill sergent at times with Max especially with training etc

Hey all. I think we know that many drivers prefer different characteristics of car handling. Is there some place where it's all consolidated together?

If not, I'll start. We know that:

These guys prefer a pointy, tail-happy car:
Hamilton
Schumi
Vettel(?)
Massa(?)

These guys want the tail to just stay put:
Webber(?)
Button
Lewis prefer oversteer?

It has been a little weird since the GE era started. I think he can handle a loose rear but only if it's predictable, as he did with the W12. He does prefer a pointy car but needs the rear to keep up.

He cannot feel the ground effect balance shifts because they are so minimal in suspension movement but huge in change in centre of pressure. It's takes some learning that's for sure and his late braking style does not suit it.

Max Verstappen always had an early braking style that we can see from telemtry in previous regs and this is more easy to adapt for ground effect.

Perez and Daniel Ricciardo are other known late brakers.

Hmm.

New topic. Engine braking.

I'm not exactly sure how it disturbs a racecar driver, but I like it in street cars.

Furthermore, he hated the way Ferrari had developed engine braking as a way of aiding corner rotation. The whole set-up and aerodynamic philosophy of the car was based around that. β€œWhen I was at McLaren with Lewis,” recalled Heikki Kovalainen, β€œhe hated engine braking. In fact, he’d sometimes have negative engine braking.” Heavy engine braking combined with Hamilton’s aggressive entry approach just made for rear instability.

I'd say it's due to shifting during engine braking which can upset car balance. I'm suspect this is/has been Verstappens complaint when he says shifts are terrible.

there's no such thing as engine braking ....
it's PU braking

yes the shifts are worse than in eg 2025 ie the MG is more disruptive now ....
plus the gear ratios are wider ?

the PU rpm can accelerate itself at about half the rate the ideal rate
though often this limitation is helpful to the driver
