Also looks like theyve gotten Merc's diffuser banned
The toothed diffuser proposed by Mercedes heading towards a ban, with almost immediate effect. Ferrari's legality check office had requested clarification from the FIA, while the aerodynamicists were ready to bring back to the car an even more extreme version of the concept.?
How many “grey areas” are on that car? I’ve lost count.f1316 wrote: ↑24 Jun 2026, 18:45Was about to post exactly this re Mercedes diffuser: https://racingnews365.com/fia-issues-te ... is-requestLuscion wrote: ↑24 Jun 2026, 14:30Enrico Gualtieri confirms ferrari are bringing the new engine this weekend

Apparently Mercedes are trying to push it to Silverstone because their trucks already left but that seems like an extremely poor reason to use an illegal part (that they already got away with using) so really hope that’s not accepted.
Seemingly Ferrari asked the FIA for clarification on this pre-season and were told it would be illegal so another very unfair thing if Mercedes get away with something Ferrari couldn’t. Good to see them finally getting a political win here though - hopefully ADUO, compression ratio + this and we start to redress the balance where Mercedes got the better of political shenanigans.
It looks fairly important. Surely worth at least a tenth…. Now gone.Badger wrote: ↑24 Jun 2026, 20:30Nothing that and angle grinder can't solve.

"Down the rev range" is, of course, relative. Offer a team a 10hp increase from 9000-10500 or just at 10500 and they will take the former. And short shifting to control traction in certain places has been used for how long? Many decades, certainly.Badger wrote: ↑24 Jun 2026, 17:56Not so sure about this logic because cars really aren't "lower down in the rev range" in the power limited parts of the track. https://i.postimg.cc/6qygVHs9/rpm.png The only time a car really goes below 10k rpm whilst on throttle is out of some of the slower corners, and on initial acceleration out of those corners you are far more traction limited than power limited, especially with 350 kW of MGU-K helping. By the time the car actually needs the full grunt from the ICE you are already back in the optimal rev range and pulling gears.Just_a_fan wrote: ↑24 Jun 2026, 17:21Any power you add lower down the rev range will bring a benefit - the cars don't go from idle straight to maximum revs, they build and any additional power added during that rising rev phase will absolutely accelerate the car harder. That allows more punch out of a corner, for example, and thus enables top speed to be reached sooner.venkyhere wrote: ↑23 Jun 2026, 02:10
Actually, compared to road cars to whom peak power (or power number around peak power RPM) isn't that important ; in F1 cars peak HP is a very reasonable measure of performance, vide the simple fact that the % duration of full throttle and % duration of near-peak RPM (in all gears) over a laptime duration, is a much much higher proportion.
Naaah he will be fine. It's a track at which he goes well. He will be fighting for pole come Q3 on Saturday.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑25 Jun 2026, 02:53Dino is driving Charles' car in this weekend's FP1. Not sure if this will put Charles on the back foot? Austria track is notoriously technical.

Lewis had his best race in a couple of years after one of the apprentice drivers used his car in FP1. If Charles does the same this race, expect to see both drivers missing FP1 for every remaining standard race weekend...PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑25 Jun 2026, 02:53Dino is driving Charles' car in this weekend's FP1. 6 to 8, and maybe like 12 to 15 later? but yes he keeps saying we need to improve every where every department since long time.. right attitude imo
