The car is on par to Williams, which is where Stroll is. Alo being able to put it in the fight with Haas and close to Alpine is just an Alo thing.

As sometimes We said... Alo doesn't need to have the best car to win... Just a competitive enough car that isn't excessively far from the best.

Good improvement. They're on the right way! Honda needs to deliver now.

You've got to stop making stuff like that up. Alonso's quick. He did an excellent job getting the car into the right window for qualifying and then executed some outstanding laps.

I noticed he changed his approach through the final corner on the prep lap, keeping the ICE revs unusually high. I'd assume he was harvesting and topping up the battery there before starting the push lap. He also carried noticeably more speed onto the main straight, which likely gave him a stronger run to the timing line. A few other drivers do similar things depending on their deployment strategy and energy management.

We all agree Stroll is a step behind. Tomorrow is where Alonso's real strength should show. His racecraft, tire management, and ability to manipulate the pace over a stint are among the best on the grid. We'll see if he can nail the launch, gain a position or two off the line, and then manage the tire degradation while maximizing the car's race pace.

While this is an upgrade, it's really no more than a few tenths compared to the start of the season.

Or the counter measures just don't work for the new chassis.
Or the new rear suspension doesn't work? New one caused Lance's to break. Both cars had the oscillations. If they reverted back to the old suspension and the vibrations are gone in FP2, one could surmise that there is some relationship.

For some reason Newey's response doesn't seem genuine. I think he's feeling the pressure of Stroll Sr. as his son's car almost pitched him into the wall. Stroll had a masterful save - possibly Newey's job.
neweys answers "dont seem genuine" because you are incapable of offering any view that doesnt leave AMR as some villain thats in some weird war against hondas integrity. any quote from newey or any other team member that doesnt offer complete immunity to honda from doing anything wrong is obviously a conspiracy to denigrate the whole company, and all japanese people to boot. (this is weird af)

if you think newey is feeling some kind of pressure for his job you are delusional. he feels pressure because he want to win. any pressure newey has is put on him by himself at this point in his career.
Perhaps I'm more keen on his diction. He didn't come out and say it as if he knew what was the issue. The journalist kind of baited him with that question, in effect, leading the witness. Besides, they dialed out the oscillations and vibrations, did they not? And who would you credit that to? It's called team effort. No need for Newey to immediately call out Honda.

The track conditions were not optimal for Alonso. Wind, ambient temperatures, and the track evolution benefitted the late runners. Had Alonso gone toward the end, he likely would have found some more time.

Plus there is the newborn in the equation.

I compared Q1 because they didn't make out of Q1 before.

Right not likely to have found clean air and clean track, he might have found himself behind Hadjar.

I just point out my opinion, so I don't consider I've got to stop doing it, so kindly thank you for your suggestion. I don't think I've said anything stupid or offensive to have been warned by you.

Actually, I stand by it my post. In my opinion, the car is more or less at Williams level. If I look at the numbers, that's what Stroll laps tells us. If We consider the car is better now than Williams, then We'd be assuming that Stroll is a bad qualifier. And while I think he's not at Alo level, I don't think he's bad either.

With this upgrades, MY OPINION is that We are barely at Haas level (closer to Williams, as I said). And that's huge, taking into account where we come from.

All of this opinions, are in qualifying terms. I don't know how the race pace will be. I hope for even better improvement there.

First step.

But Q3 is still quite far, if the engine can deliver 1s a lap, maybe they will be close to q3.

When you accumulate such a massive gap is tough to recover on the top teams, because they are super efficient in improving the car. It's likely that all the top teams found around 1s of performance from the start of the season. This is a very good step because the improvements worked, which means that the work done was correct and also proved good correlation between the factory and the track. This will for sure boost confidence in the team that can now even take more risks, being able to trust more and more the tools (CFD, Wind Tunnel and the Sim). Obviously, they also need a big improvement PU wise.

This car's chassis is much better than the Haas, Williams, and Cadillac, and it is better than the Alpine.

It might be as good as the Racing Bulls at the moment taking into account the massive horsepower deficit.

Q2 was a great moral victory today. I only regret that Zandvoort is a month away!

The car has those 100hp less (or whatever they are), so until the car has all the things to be better than the Williams, the car isn't still clearly better than the Williams.

My point is that, in this qualy, in this moment, it's the closest car.

Just trying to be objective, mate.

This feels more like a semantics issue more than anything else. What constitutes as the quality of the car? The chassis by itself or the chassis and engine combination?
