Mate don't worry about the others, they have no idea about how the Japanese work.
Around four years, it was the final spec they rushed that really delivered the performance, and they were pretty close together with Ferrari and Mercedes. It's anyone's guess which was really the best at what point. The PU freeze certainly helped to retain the engine situation. (Including crippling Renault)
Orihara, while discussing the engine updates they will be bringing, mentioned combustion chamber design, pre-chamber design, friction reduction, and reliabelity improvements. All of these relate to the ice.

You should not compare Aston to the top teams this season.. best to compare against the RBs, Audis. They are very competitive in the corners against those teams. Now with a better engine, drivability/engine braking/cornering speeds will be better. It's obvious they made a big step with this package, because before it, the car was just a complete pig. It's true the engine remains the biggest limitation still, however they have more margin to improve with the chassis as well. There wasn't a single corner where they were close to Lando's fastest Q2 lap with regards to minimum apex speed. The faster bits you can still put it down to the engine a bit, but the slower corners like T1, the chicane, T12 and the hairpins are not so power-limited.
From some rough summations of the full throttle parts, there's about 1-1.2 seconds from the engine, which leaves about 1-1.2 seconds to the chassis in terms of deficit.
RBPT hired ex Honda F1 and Mercedes F1 engineers when Honda said they were leaving...
