Kimi set a green mini-sector where Max's car was stopped. 3 places is a let-off, all things considered.

Russell was 14km/h slower past Max's car in Austria, hence no penalty.

Russell damaged the PU when he went over a kerb.
Russell explains his particular problem

🗣️"On lap 4 I hit the piano and got a water leak, the team told me the leak was affecting the tires, we've seen the leak in the data and how the tire temperatures dropped, but honestly we weren't in the fight among the top three anyway, it could have been 4th or 5th but no more"

🗣️"I don't think it had any impact other than having to pit, but the team told me the leak was reaching the tires and it's funny. We don't have the pace this weekend and I hope tomorrow is better"

That engine is as heavy duty as Barcelona's high line. Always breaks.

Its an F1 car, not a tank to throw it hard on curbs. I mean its not the engine fault.

You're kind of supposed to though, it's designed to keep going while being under continuous strain. An F1 car seems like it should be fragile, but they're constantly run on the limit. It's a crazy amount of strain that you can't really comprehend if your frame of reference is just your every day car that probably never gets close to the redline.

The guy is just unlucky. An F1 engine shouldn't tear itself apart just because you ran over a kerb.

edited: Antonelli explained what happened to Russell. The battery was topped up too much which meant the turbo could no longer build boost (it needs to be able to load the engine against the MGUK in order to build boost). Without boost, the car had no power and went to anti-stall when the dropped the clutch.

good damage limitations for Kimi, finishing ahead of both Ferraris here is a key result for the title race

strategy was a bit meh in my opinion, they played it very safe, luckily were rewarded by Ferrari brain fade

anyway now you seriously need upgrades

They definitely have a downforce deficit but the new upgrade package is coming in Zandvoort thankfully!

Yeah, now they really need to gather whatever they've got cooking in the upcoming week before the mandatory factory shutdown, and prepare it for shipping to the Netherlands, deffering the upgrade package any longer - that is supposed to bring a "decent-decent step forward", per Toto - is now off the table...

It is not necessarily a bad thing to roll multiple packages together (with all new parts fine-honed to eachother) though, the development curve is still very steep with this reg-set, leapfrogging is still possible, as has McLaren just clearly proved... but It has to be of the quality of the Canada package at the very least by then...

Toto Wolff on blue flags in Hungary: "The problem is that some engineers on the pit wall are absolute Teletubbies and would rather stare up at the sky than tell their drivers that there’s a train of leading drivers coming from behind and that they’re fighting for positions."
Quote of the weekend.

Ferrari really threw us a lifeline this weekend. Kimi extended his lead in the WDC and basically kept the WCC frozen in place.

Damage limitation heading into the summer rather than limping into the summer. Team should be very motivated to come back strong after the break.
