Not sure how much use timing info would be unless there are other drivers on track?

How much slower is a GP2 car?

If an F1 car did a lap in say 1:30 what would a GP2 car do?

1:40??

GP2 cars are typically 6-8 seconds a lap slower than F1.

There's a rumour flying around on other forums that he did a 1:26.7 whereas they were in the 1:25's last year in testing.

If thats the case then I guess 1 second off the 'pace' in cold/windy conditions and the first time in the car is not a bad start.

Any ideas as to what developments are on this 3rd gen GP2 car?

GP2 is a huge dissapointment to me... when introducing the series its creators said that it will not only be a place for young drivers to prove themselves but also be a test platform to evaluate possible new rule(technical) changes for F1. While they seemed to get the rules package right to create closer/wheel to wheel racing in GP2 with the bigger tunnels and smaller wings, none of that has seemed to transfer over to improving the F1 show. Well maybe I should be more dissapointed with the OWG than with GP2.

New components generally but mainly suspension and clutch related according to http://www.motorsport-total.com/formels ... 11101.html

It made me laugh when I saw the press release from GP2 saying that he was helping them with their development. No he's not, he's using it as an outdoor gym to get fit and improve his coordination & focus.

Times are likely to be irrelevant, the car will be set up to give handling charachteristics that he wants to test, such as fuelled to the brim for stamina, or light as possible to generate max speed and check the lateral loads on his neck. He may also be doing a lot of pit stop practise, and possibly learning to share data with Jock Clear.

Oh and it gives Merc a bit more PR, more than Jensen ever could.

Richard, his race engineer isn't Jock Clear. It is Andrew Shovlin according to James Allan.

Michael said today that the day was mainly dedicated to learn communication with the race engineer and get the feeling of driving the car near the limit. He thinks both objectives worked out.

They could never run competitively on sicks because the track was too wet.

They keep saying it is for the 2011 GP2 car, so 'm sure there is some development work going on.
