I'll swim against the stream and make a guesstimate on the current pecking-order, based on the, admittedly rather limited, info and quotes we have to go by from the first test:

Second, I don't think that Ferrari are the best out there ... and neither are Sauber.

I some how find it hard to believe that from a deficit of 0,3 - 0,4s(2009) and considering the fact that the top teams have also improved over the winter, Ferrari is now in front of them.

Maybe their are in the same league with Mercedes and McLaren and that would be a great accomplishment on it's own I think.

And also let's not forget RedBull, who may offer us a few surprises next week.

I have a strong feeling that McLaren will be very strong once they show their true colors later in the tests.

A surprise depends on what you expect. Personally, I would be surprised if Red Bull are not right up there with the top teams. Currently, my bet on world champion is Alonso or Vettel (followed by Hamilton, Massa and Schumacher).

What would be so hard to believe about it "IF" it comes to pass?

Yes Brawn overcame a bigger disparity indeed but last year there were new rules and all the teams basically began with a new design.

This year the rules are mostly the same although the change regarding refuelling can make a difference.

I think that is much easier to make it or break it if you start from scratch then when you basically have a natural evolution from one year to another.

Anyway I will hold my judgement until al least the next test session from Jerez.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it comes out that Cosworth were running on reduced revs or a less aggressive map for this test. We have to remember the other engines are tried and tested units, so I am hoping that as they become more confident we might see the Williams pace improving.

Massa's fastest lap - 1:11.722 - set on the first flying lap of an 11-lap run.
Kobayashi's fastest lap - 1:12.056 - set on the fourth lap of an 8-lap run.
Hamilton's fastest lap - 1:12.256 - set on the fourth lap of a 20-lap run.
Kubica's fastest lap - 1:12.426 - set on the second lap of a 3-lap run.
Rosberg's fastest lap - 1:12.899 - set on the fifth lap of a 6-lap run.

However, there is no reason to suggest they weren't carrying more fuel than the amount of laps they did.

working with this, perhaps someone can work out fuel corrected times and see what order the cars come out at then? More reliable than just looking at the time posted?

It's not possible because we cannot know if for example Massa had fuel on-board for exactly 11 laps, he may have had more and the same may be truth for other drivers as well. Even if we did calculate the fuel corrected times, we would still be guessing.
