If we're going for fantasy calendars, here's mine

Round 1 - Australian Grand Prix - Albert Park
Round 2 - Abu Dhabi GP - Yas Marina
Round 3 - Portugese GP - Portimao
Round 4 - Spanish GP - Jerez de la Frontera
Round 5 - Monaco GP - Monte Carlo Street Circuit
Round 6 - Rome GP - Rome Street Circuit
Round 7 - Canadian GP - Ile De Notre Dame
Round 8 - French GP - Paul Ricard HTTT (with temporary stands)
Round 9 - British GP - Silverstone
Round 10 - German GP - Nurburgring
Round 11 - Finnish GP - Helsinki Street Circuit
Round 12 - Belgian GP - Spa Francorchamps
Round 13 - Italian GP - Monza
Round 14 - Singaporean GP - Singapore Street Circuit
Round 15 - Japanese GP - Suzuka
Round 16 - Brazilian GP - Interlagos
Round 17 - United States GP - Caeser's Palace

My criteria are, in no particular order - classic circuits, distinctive ones, good excitement racing and going to places where there will be great attendances.

Like ESP posted, some related rule things

Pre-season testing limited to four pre-season three day tests at Barcelona, Valencia Ricardo Tormo, Vallelunga and Motorland Aragon. Two cars per team at the final two of the tests, one at the first two.
Post-season testing limited to one three-day test at Silverstone. One car per team at the first two.
Each team must nominate three drivers at the start of the season, each having to complete 250km at three of the four tests, running a continuous 50km within 107% of the fastest continuous 50km.
Seven European events being supported by the World Formula Two Championship : European Conference.
Australia, Singapore, Japan being supported by the World Formula Two Championship : Pacific Conference plus standalones in Korea, Indonesia, China and another in Japan.
Brazil and USA supported by the World Formula Two Championship Grand Finals, plus a standalone at Auto Club Speedway road course.

The reason for seventeen races, not more, is to accommodate other events in the motor racing calendar, including an annual World Cup for national teams (a little like A1GP, but without it's catalogue of mistakes) using either F3 cars or something like SCCA Formula 1000 with carbon tubs. My proposed venues are either a street/disused airport circuit in Nassau, The Bahamas or a circuit on the old airport in Athens, Greece. This would feature eighteen three-car national teams, with the tournament divided up in to three Pool Stage groups of six, two semi-final groups, a final group and a relegation round for the bottom two in each pool group, the bottom three of that being relegated to the second tier.

In no particular order:
  • Imola (without the Tamburello or Villeneuve chicanes)
    Nordschleife
Silverstone (and I want free entry as it's so close I can hear it if the wind is in the right direction! :D )
    Interlagos
    Suzuka
    Istanbul
Hockenheim (in to the forest, not the current short version)
    Mount Panorama
Ile Notre Dame (Current Canadian GP)
Le Mans (yes, I know, but the thought of F1 cars flat-chat down Hunaudieres (without the bloody chicanes, naturally) just appeals to the inner kid in me...) I'd also love to see the relative times for F1 and LMP1 cars
No Monaco (waste of time in a modern F1 car), no US races (they've got enough of their own boring oval rubbish etc.)

If you include Brands Hatch you can figure at least one or two dead drivers in the next years. The place is completely unsafe according to latest F1 standards. Just look into the problem of the Surtees accident. With F1 style run offs and barriers the wheel that hit him would never have gone off Jack Clarke's car.

I guess that problem would hit a lot of other tracks as well. The drivers have got used to the level of safety in F1 that they take much more risk than appropriate for the old tracks. You could realize that problem when F1 went back to Suzuka after only 2 or 3 years away to Fuji. The drivers had lost respect for the track and we saw Glock's accident with a serious injury.

I agree with many of those fantasy destinations like the Nordschleife, but I seriously doubt that F1 will ever find the money to fix them or be prepared to accept the safety standards of those tracks.

One m ore thing. I would add more races and race from begin of February to middle of December. No winter testing except shake down tests.

Yes, my above list is absolutely unrealistic for modern F1 safety standards. Especially Nordschleife, Mount Panorama and chicaneless Le Mans and Monza. And of course the old track configurations of Zandvoort and Kyalami are sadly not available anymore. So it's a dream that can never come true. But wouldn't it be awesome? =P~

Awesome for sure but the heartbreak to loose drivers again would soon over shadow the fun. In the early seventies they used to have two or three dead drivers per season. Almost certainly the bravest and longest running like Hakkinen, Reikonen, Barichello, Schumacher, Glock, Kubica and Hamilton would be dead by now. On the Nordschleife in 2009 we had more than 100 accidents in tourist traffic and we still have on average 1-2 fatal accidents per year.

I beg to differ, today's cars so much safer than 70s, besides, an accident is an accident no matter where it happens.

The big difference with today's lifeless Tilke-tracks are the run-off areas, which you don't have at Monaco anyway.

Tracks I'd like to see...hmm..let's think

Aus GP - Mount Panorama. It's amazing watching the Aussie V8s tackle that.
French GP - Le Mans without Chicanes. I'd like to see some special F1 cars doing 3 billion mph.
Canadian GP - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Can't beat a bit of "The wall of champions"
German GP - Nordschleife. Awesome track!
American GP - Road America. My favourite track on Forza 3.
Brazilian GP - Interlagos. Host to some great races.
Portugese GP - Portimao. Looks entertaining.
Chinese GP - Macau Street Circuit.
Japanese GP - Suzuka. Just way better than Fuji. Also a figure-of-8 layout.
Turkish GP - Istanbul if it's the one I think it is. Nice long triple apex.
Monaco GP. Close barrier racing. Makes it more exciting than driving on an airfield.
Italian GP - Monza

British GP - Knockhill...it's close-by  (realistically, Silverstone)

It's quite short. I'd add more but I can't think of others. Some, if not most, aren't up to standard but this is a "want" not is achievable.

Mount Panorama is much to micky mouse for F1 cars IMHO, phillip island would be an interesting idea tho.
Talk of building a new track in victoria has me excited but i hope they keep Tilke far away :P

the tracks i miss the most are

Imola
ORIGINAL Hockenheim...seriously what the hell did they do!!!

Let's examine that.

1. Of course accident injury and death is reduced by safer cars and safer personal equipment for the drivers. There is no question about that. Nevertheless track safety plays a vital role in modern F1 safety. Best example for that is Spa. A very daunting track if you think of Eau Rouge or Pouhon. It is much safer since initially gravel and now asphalt run offs have been created. In most cases the passive safety isn't even needed due to the track safety measures.

2. Monaco is a high downforce, low speed track. Due to the slow speeds and massive use of TechPro barriers in critical places it is relatively safe. Medium or high speed tracks like Barcelona or Silverstone could never do without sophisticated run offs.

3. As often repeated Tilke tracks reflect the design spec and brief on top of the topography regarding elevations. If those factors are adverse tracks are usually bland. If the mixture is good the track gets good like Istanbul park.

Anybody who is prepared to ditch the current safety measures for tracks needs to consider increases in driver injuries and even fatalities. Even the modern passive car safeties are exceeded when a car crashes at 200 mph and the crash angle is 90° or close to that. Only deceleration by run offs can save a driver in that situation.

I have to agree - the cars are safer, but the rapid improvement with tracks is very good. These tec-pro barriers are certainly a step forward (especially for street circuits). Ideally they would be used more, but that will come with time.

Portimao is an interesting track but it doesn't have a lot of challenging high speed turns, I think that's what drivers and people want. Make a fantasy track containing in no particular order : Puhon from spa, Maggots, Becketts, Chapel complex from Silverstone, the last section of Valencia, Turn 8 from Istanbul park, Turns 4 and 10 from Hungary, turns 4 & 5 from China, 7 & 8 from Albert Park, peppered with some straights. Would be an awesome track but no one would pass at all, I think even if the track is fast you need chicanes or turn sequences where aero doesn't play that big a role.

I would love to see San Marino GP! Lovely track with elevation changes and high speed sections with a technical third sector. probably the Suzuka of Europe.
