X - how many times have drivers made the wrong choice - Chris Amon being a champion at this - he had the talent to win a WDC but he even admits he made the wrong decision on teams at critical times. Alonso - well I admire this guys talents he outdrove eveyone in 2005/06 but this year he has a team that came steaming out of the blocks in Bahrain then everything went pear shaped - my thoughts are that this has been coming for a long time (well the day Todt & Brawn left) - for all the platitudes the german gets for his driving skills Im sorry I dont think he was that talented he had Brawn behind him right the way through as well as Todt and Ferrari in those days were a well oiled machine with the best car (and yet Alonso comprehensively beat him in 05/06) anyway I hope Alonso/Ferrari get it back on track soon

what can I say chap, Chris Amon is the the saddest story of them all, leaving Ferrari for MrM's March for the 1970 season,
just because he didn't believe in the flat-12 of the 312B?

Signing for MrM again for 1973, only to be suckered when MrM didn't have any money and went with pay drivers.

Agreeing to drive for the hopeless hobby-team Tecno and then trying his own chassis, makes me cry a bit.

Chris Amon
Ronnie Petersson
Gilles Villeneuve

think back Amon stuck an Ensign MN05 to the second row in
Anderstorp in 1976...an Ensign...they did not even have enough to eat let alone money for an engine.. #-o

A18 was good on some track, Hungaroring was one of these.

Villeneuve was not the greatest driver, but he was a good one (before electronic started to be everywhere).

You do not win Indy 500 and Formula one championship and finished 2nd on Le Mans (just behind an unbeatable Audi on a Peugeot) only by chance.

back on topic... Will Alonso go lawn mowing again(like 2007) this weekend? or will he hit a wall(like 2008). How will he do versus the resigned Massa.

Here in Montreal, looks like a wet weekend ahead, maybe Alonso can show something good.... or make more mistakes.

I'm afraid Alonso is at daggers drawn with Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. So the feeling here is that we will see him struggle again, but perhaps sitting in the red car will appease the ghost of the great Canadian.

The 2005 Ferrari on the one set Bridgestone tyres was a sorry truck of a car on the same level as the 1996 Barnard machine, uncompetitive and nowhere near the sharp end of the grid.

I don't think it was as good as the 96 car. Only one win at a joke race with 6 cars.

The 96 car had three wins from races with full grids. The main problem with the 96 car was the engine that had a habit of failing.

2005 was all about the tires, the Ferrari could have been the best designed car on the grid but those BS tires could not compete

Bridgestone were only getting data from Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi. Michelin had all the other top teams compared to Bridgestone's one.

They had no chance in 2005.

Does it matter weather the car was crap or had catastrophal tyres? It wasn't a driver issue. The "heroic" Schumacher slaying in 2005 by Alonso was nothing but the skillful use of a superior car just as Schumacher had used his superior 2004 car. Both years were less than heroic.

Another problem with the 96 car was that Barnard had taken the new side protection rules far too literally,
which gave the car hopeless aerodynamics.

On topic though; Ferrari and Alonso better get their act together pretty soon, before they slide down to early-90s status,
which is something nobody wants to see when I believe Ferrai is a center-pillar for the worldwide interest in Formula One.

So that's why it had those ridiculous side pods! #-o I had often wondered but had never asked. I wasn't sure if there was some huge groundbreaking aero effect there or if it wass just a mistake.

I think it was more about the grotesque head-protection resulting from taking the rules way too serious, nobody else did that in 96;

But of course, those aircraft-like side-pods surely didn't help, it was like a brick on the straights, Barnards only true lemon.

I think it actually looked better with the low nose. How it won at Monza that year is pretty amazing!
