yes indeed .Berger drove a D7 to 6th position on his debut for ATS in Italy but was not eligible for points for not having participated in all GPs.
The ATS was blindingly quick ,when it drove faultless ,Winkelhock at times as high as 3rd placed in the races only to be hit by technical issues again and again, rarely finishing but very often towards the front in qualy.
It was the first car to have a visible monocoque all the way from nosecone to the engine .only Bodywork was the sidepods and engine cover .Brunner used as a first in F1 the female mould techology in contrast to Mclaren ,Renault etc who used the male plug method resulting in very restricted shapes .
Looking at the pics of the ATS and Brunners later work for Ferrari Rial and Zakspeed
it may well be the case he only closed the tub by gluing a flat floor to the tub already with the ATS D6 (this was his way when he did the Ferrari,Rial and Zakspeed).Todays monocoques are build with the parting line much higher ,more like 300mm from the bottom.

Your go!

I must admit to have cheated with Wikipedia (and the English one does not mention that fact). But I was three years old then, so sorry guys.
BUT I have a 1:23 scale model of the Brabham BT 52 of that year. O:)
And that could be my question: Why does my Brabham model have an Olivetti livery, when every picture I find has Parmalat?
Well the model wasn't that expensive ... #-o But if anyone has an answer ...

But, another one, the real one (and maybe too easy): There was one driver in this decade who made only one race, led the field after the second lap, retired and never raced again in F1 until now. Driver, team and race, s'il vous plait! :-k

Right, Sir!
From Wikipedia:
"Winkelhock started last on the 22-car grid alongside team mate Adrian Sutil. But on the formation lap with the rest of the field already on dry-weather tyres, the team made a last-second decision to call Winkelhock into the pits to switch to intermediate tyres. When pouring rain forced almost all the others to pit at the end of the first lap, Winkelhock was able to move into the lead, passing some cars as they pitted, and even passing Kimi Räikkönen on the track as the Finn tip-toed around to the pits, eventually building a lead of 33 seconds by the end of the second lap. By lap 4 he had a lead of 1:55.714 over Ferrari's Felipe Massa in 2nd place.

As the rain got heavier the race stewards first sent out the safety car, and then suspended the race following a series of spin-offs in the first corner behind the safety car. The race re-started after the rain had eased. Winkelhock and his team chose to start on full wet tyres on a drying track in the hope of further showers, as the team expected he would be overtaken by faster cars anyway. The gamble failed and, having re-started the race from pole position, Winkelhock quickly fell down the order. He retired on lap 15 with hydraulic problems that caused a small fire. He had led for a total of six laps.

According to Bob Varsha of the Speed Channel commentary team, Winkelhock is the only driver in Formula One history to start last on the grid and lead the race in his first Grand Prix, and due to the red flag and restart, is also the only driver in Formula One history to start both last and first on the grid in the same Grand Prix."

I like this story! 8)
So it's your turn, matt

Might aswell revive this one...

There was a documentary in memory of a famous german speaking F1 driver on television last year. An equally famous rockband from the same era as the driver in question delivered the soundtrack. Name the driver, documentary title, band and song.

Rockfan or not, the documentary is well worth seeing. As far as I know it aired first on 3sat (german TV). Btw the band is quite "colourful" .

Contains are colour? Tentative link time...

Simply Red
Red for Ferrari
German Ferrari ex-driver, Michael Schumacher.

So we can deduce that the band was Simply Red, the driver was Michael Schumacher (total guess!). As for the song and the programme title I have no idea.

Nice try but not correct. I'll give you the band and the song, that should narrow down the era-part:

Ah darn it! I know that song as well! #-o

Released in 1970, so I assume the programme was about Jochen Rindt, the only posthumous F1 driver, who died in 1970.

You can really see the cogs working here can't you?!

There you go!

Jochen Rindt letzter Sommer. Unfortunately there are only excerpts of the docu on the net :( . The editor(s) really skillfully juxtaposed music and footage of those late 60s F1 cars. A must see in my book, even if you don't speak german.

Andrew, your turn...

Before my time but the magnitude of the tradegy is not lost.

This is maybe too easy but it's getting late.

According to rumours a couple years ago, a big Hollywood name was set to play a well renowned motorsport commentator in a film about the life of some German chap who raced a little green car in 1991 (not sure what became of him...)

Name the actor, the commentator and just for the hell of it, name the F1 driver.

The 1972 March 721X had one particular feature at the rear, rather uncommon at the day, very much standard today. Which?
