yes indeed .Berger drove a D7 to 6th position on his debut for ATS in Italy but was not eligible for points for not having participated in all GPs.
The ATS was blindingly quick ,when it drove faultless ,Winkelhock at times as high as 3rd placed in the races only to be hit by technical issues again and again,rarely finishing but very often towards the front in qualy.
It was the first car to have a visible monocoque all the way from nosecone to the engine .only Bodywork was the sidepods and engine cover .Brunner used as a first in F1 the female mould techology in contrast to Mclaren ,Renault etc who used the male plug method resulting in very restricted shapes .
Looking at the pics of the ATS and Brunners later work for Ferrari Rial and Zakspeed
it may well be the case he only closed the tub by gluing a flat floor to the tub already with the ATS D6 (this was his way when he did the Ferrari,Rial and Zakspeed).Todays monocoques are build with the parting line much higher ,more like 300mm from the bottom.
