Its not quite Bruce Mclaren Orange. To quote Mclaren 'The cars' book I received for Christmas, it is Papaya orange that over time became known as Mclaren Orange.SiLo wrote:It's called Bruce Mclaren Orange. It was first seen on the 1967 Can-am M6A three years after his first car.
On the current colour debate Im surprised it causes so much debate every year. Mclaren have created their own brand and livery that in the main doesnt have to change for any of their smaller sponsors. Paint it black and red and many of the casual viewers wouldnt think it wasnt a mclaren or worse still may think its a Virgin!
I hope and think it will stay in the great current scheme.
And even then , Ferrari red came in different shades of red through the years . Marlboro , Vodafone et al, all had an influence on the shaderaymondu999 wrote: Ferrari red is of Ferrari.
For many fans, McLaren's iconic colours would probably be red and white from the Marlboro days:raymondu999 wrote:Having said that, McLaren orange isn't as iconic and symbolic of McLaren as say, Ferrari red is of Ferrari. When we see a 90%-red car on the grid we think Ferrari. If we see orange, it might not be McLaren that comes to mind. Even the dark-grey-silver is more iconic of Merc.
thats such a poor logic, mecesed had a very large stake in the mclaren team before they bought put brawn, so thats why they went silver unlike the other teams mentioned and to your other post, they shouldnt need to chnage just because of merc, the colours are totally different. I say keep the chrome, it looks amzing and really stands out, espeically at singapore and abu dhabi.wesley123 wrote:Yes and the paint came when Mercedes buyed themselves in mclaren, now they dont own these shares anymore thus the chrome doesnt make sense enymore. The force india isnt grey either is it? The Sauber isnt red either because it has an Ferrari engine in it.
The first thing that comes to mind when I see that red and white livery is McLaren, yes.gridwalker wrote:Do you still see those colours and think of McLaren, or do you get an urge for a smoke?
