McLaren MP4-26 Mercedes

It's a really nice detailed picture. Is there something new I'm missing? That's just the outside edge of the bargeboard behind the sidepod turning vane, right?

What was interesting though is that according to the autosport live timing this morning, Button's best lap yesterday was set with the bulbous nose fitted.

Getting data at a higher average speed maybe? I always assume that the engines are not at full capacity during testing, so perhaps they gave him a little more power to examine the wing response.

I expect I'm stating the obvious here, but I would have thought that the bulbous nose and the connecting rods would have significantly harmed their aero efficiency, so setting a quick lap would be tricky, unless of course they have been sandbagging all along?

Either that, or we'll be seeing lots more bulbous-nosed cars in the not-too-distant future?!? :P

Mass Damper talk deleted. Everything about the Mass Damper, and it's offspring the J-Damper, can be found here.

Giblet, we were not talking about the mass damper, but about the eventuality of using a flexing wing as a similar device. Considering McLaren are developing such a flexing wing, how was the discussion off topic? There's so much deleting around here half the discussions seem to disappear...

i dont know if this has been possted all ready

Although McLaren haven't opted to use forward-facing exhausts, the team have come up with two different exhaust solutions at the back. One is very traditional (inset) and blows directly towards the rear of the car. The second is much more complex (main image) and features a U-bend pipe, with a bonded section on the side of the car's stepped bottom. This hides the flat and wide exhaust exit, which blows towards the starter hole in the centre of the rear diffuser.

What I saw, and sorry if I am mistaken, but all the posts I deleted were explaining a device on a Renault from 2006 that is now banned. If I deleted some others I apologize as I didn't see them. I am somewhat prone to errors right now, but hopefully I will have them all gone very soon. [-o<

I often had my posts deleted and they were usually worth deleting in hindsight, but in the future I will not make that judgement on the spot in case I am in error and derail a particular subject that has merit. I'll spend a bit more time and dig up the old thread with the old subject.

The post did start by explaining the device to avoid readers having to fish out an explanation from another part of the forum, but the main point was that doing such a thing on the actual front wing, using its weight as the suspended mass, would be impractical for aerodynamic purposes. It was this specific use of the bending FW which we were discussing, not the mass damper as such.

But no worries, I guess that with the amount of posts coming on the car threads at the moment, it's hard to read them all in full. And thanks for the hard work keeping this place readable.

Sandbagging implies a faking of reliability and speed .. I don't think they are faking it .. they are lost in the woods again.

I have moved and am moving all the off topic posts about performance, drivers, etc, all out of the car thread into here.

No disrespect intended, but your moderation is getting a bit heavy-handed. I don't post much but do pay close attention to what's posted here. Performance related posts are being removed from this technical thread. You don't think the two are related, seriously?!

Both drivers are complaining about the car, but do we know if it's based on aero or mechanical issues? Lewis saying the car is lacking df doesn't explain much considering we're back to the conventional diffuser and he hasn't driven another team's car to compare.
