Honda RA806E

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Ok, that one mount on R26/RS26 looks as it is on the inner side of valve/cam cover but still it is very different from Honda's approach. Honda has mount on outer side of the valve/cam cover too and since all engines are now 90deg I wonder why do they put so much mass out of the centerline of the car? :?

BTW, those cut away pics are Renault's official not my mockup.

Compromises... for them probably the tiny increment of the MOI around roll axis is well worth the gained stiffness in the engine – gearbox coupling.
Furthermore Honda, contrarily to Renault, has a carbon case and that leads to different choices in term of structural design. If you look at the Honda gearbox you’ll see that mounting points for engine and suspensions are on a metallic insert on the upper sides of the case : http://www.motorsport.com/photos/f1/200 ... p-0017.jpg
(non technical comment alert : that case is a beauty)

To that you have to add the always existing differences related to the fact that different people and different teams have different experiences, background and methods, in most of things there isn’t The Right solution, just what you believe will be the best compromise.
