Right, now that the race has definately finished this time, I can hail this as another great victory for Vettel. =D>

The safety car saved him for sure but I think Vettel would have managed to keep Alonso and Button at bay, as long as he kept driving defensively.

Best finish yet for Kobyashi. Bitter sweet for Sauber considering Perez.

Any word on Petrov?

The end of this race has to be the most bizarre I have seen in a long time.

Would you say he was desperate?
Or would you say a racer who never gives up trying to gain places?

In the past people have moaned because drivers settled for their places with several laps to go. Hamilton keeps attacking - something the likes of Schuie used to do "back in the day"...

Meh, not really a great victory – he got very very very lucky with safety cars... Man of the race – JB.

No chance – they were side by side into the braking zone, absolutely maldonado's fault 100%

I give Maldonando 27%.

IT's possible to read too much into a bad race.

Agreed. Webber properly slammed the door on Koby but it was a clean move with no contact.

Maldonado should have seen him but just closed the door. If it was Hamiltons fault he wouldnt have hit the pillar on the apex since you would follow his racing line.

Furthermore I feel robbed on a good ending by the allowed tire change.

Also I really do not understand what Sutil even did there, a hundred metres ago he hit the wall and by then he should already kow he would, at least, have a puncture. Yet he still goes on and causes complete carnage behind him.

Turned in on someone on the racing line – that's absolutely his fault.

I really want to know what would have happened if they were to have continued. I mean we never will, but the fact so much could have has hollowed the victory a touch.

I hate to say it, but these kind of seasons are somewhat boring. Yes you have a dominant car, a fading teammate, so it's your season to lose Vettel.

I think JB put in the drive of the day.

It was a victory but hardly a great one. Three safety cars over the weekend, all three benefitting Vettel and harming his closest competitors. That was probably the most gift wrapped victory he's had this year.

Hopefully that'll be the last of the easy ones for him with Canada likely to suit the McLarens, and at least let them overtake even if they can't out qualify them.

Then from Silverstone the whole order could be shaken up again if the FIA get their way over the blown diffusers.

VERY clever strategy swap by Red Bull when that first safety car came out (highly unlikely they planned him to go 1-stop from lap 16).

That gave Seb track position, and allowed him to be fortuitous with all the other safety car periods.

Very very clever work. =D>

Unless the person you're turning in to is Hamilton, apparently...

The McLaren was clearly the dominant car in the race here. I believe in Canada it'll be similar again – a tiny lead for RBR in qually, and then McLaren dominating the race.

If he'd set a time worth of P10, and then had his lap deleted he would have had even less of an issue. If he'd set two laps worthy of 7th on the grid, he'd similarly have had even less of an issue... This is absolutely the intention of the rule – if you cock up a lap, it's ignored, and the others paid attention to, whether they're as fast, faster, slower, or non-existant.
Agreed, there is no conflict between the intended and actual meanings. Ture that starting 3 places furhter back than you planned is a penalty but I'm not so sure with new tyres.

To be honest, starting in one of the fastest cars on new tyres whilst your competitors are on used tyres is not a bad way to start the race. I think Hamilon will have regained his original grid position by the end of lap one.
Any car can chose not to run in Q3 and start from 10 with new tires. Hamilton has even wasted more tires with his aborted laps than a team that choses not to run. I don't see what your problem is. Rules are fine. I seriously doubt Hamilton will do well today anyway.
Once again my estimates are proven correct.
