We can finally compare?

I thought the "comparisons" have been made for over a year. They show that Vettel is an ignorant driver, don't they? Somehow he's beating the "best of the best of the best" by a million points. Oh, the injustice! They should use TopGear results and forget the rest of the races...

Now, I'm up to my ears of people claiming that champions are not nice. Sorry, n_smikle, nothing personal here, no intention to offend anyone, but I'll take your post as an opportunity.

Mark Donohue, Captain Nice (I'm not making it up).

Graham Hill. Can you be nicer?

Alain Prost, the cool professor.

Alex Zanardi, smiling even in the conditions he was left after his accident. Zest, gusto.

Clay Regazzoni, an admirable man. Giant in defeat. I know, my only brother is in a wheelchair since he was 9 months old.

Juan Manuel Fangio. Always the gentleman.

Froilán González, humble self declared mechanic with a gusto for racing.

Phil Hill. The "thoughtful gentle man".

Bruce McLaren. His epithaph: "It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in wins alone."

Colin Chapman. "In adversity we thrive".

Jenson Button. "Can you be nicer?" said his girlfriend.

Mario Andretti: "If you believe in it, it is because it is very honorable".

Jim Clark tombstone. By his explicit wishes, it says he was a farmer, in first place.

All of them, champions. True world class. The example to follow. Never forget that. You're never alone, people, have faith in decency, at least I'm with you. Not because it is the right thing to do, but because you have a soul whose form will depend on your actions today, every day.

In Colombia we say: "the thieve thinks everybody is like him".

So, puhleeze. No more imbecile posts, will ya, people? When you concentrate on being dirty, then you lose the focus. You always think in the others. That's not the way to be a winner. This is a very short sighted view.

Besides, are you true McLaren fans, the same people that almost lose the team to a dirty trickster a few years ago, in the famous Ferrari photocopies affair, insisting on the validity of dirty tricks?

You must be out of your collective minds to even suggest that Schumacher is an example to follow. Schumacher, no matter the numbers, is a disgrace for racing. Not because of his abilities, but because his evident lack of sporting spirit, something that will go down in history for centuries.

I guess some of you look at the Sporting Code and laugh. My condolences.

Where is the joy in your racing? Actually, where is the good humour and the jokes? I say: none to be found in these horrible threads, filled with anger and disappointment. Why on heaven do you have to suffer so much? This is a sport, a game. A way to be happy, not to display how dark can a soul be. We already know that (I live in Colombia, for the love of Pete! I work building roads, communicating people, in the most remote and violent regions of the world).

I'll always remember the time a custom guard tried to check the fur toy my older girl was carrying into the checking point at Miami Airport.

When the guard tried to grab the toy to check it (probably for drugs, I guess, we were coming from Colombia), my daughter took it away from the custom lady and said: "¡Nosotros somos de los buenos!" ("We are the good ones!"). She was four years old at the moment.

I know I'm not alone in this opinion.

Technically, invalid comparision; sorry. We don't even know how much they pushed. We do know in F1 races, cause they always give their all.

Even if the conditions were exactly the same and one was faster than the other what exactly would it prove anyway?? That one is a better F 1 driver even though one was dominating the other when and where it really matters?
Generally I don't care about what people say. I have to be clear with myself. When everything goes well, people celebrate you, when you make mistakes people criticize you.

It's like comparing drivers like Prost & Senna, Hill (Graham) & Clark, Mansell & Piquet... It will NEVER be possible to scientifically determine which one is the best, too many factors involved.

Let's just say they're both great drivers and that they are leaving their mark in motorsport.

Good post. The only thing worth reading in this dumb thread.

I`m an Alonso fan so your logic fails right there Diesel.

Ciro - I don´t what you are on about but i´ve stopped reading you stuff.

The thing is we can´t compare the drivers in F1 because one sits in a superior car.
So we don´t know what is the car what is the driver.

But now they actually got to do a lap in the same car. The results speak for themselves.
And how do we know they were pushing? Please, they are F1 drivers, he even checked the tire pressures before setting off...
The truth will come out...

I really don´t get it.
How can this thread be a ground for moralising about Mclaren or Schumacher?
Top Gear is entertainment for the masses and they are sending people around on a track with a import sedan.end of story.
You won´t see anything apart from a glimpse of talent to drive quick. No wonder Seb or Hamilton or Barrichello can drive quick ...they earn their money as race drivers...so why on earth shouldn´t they be able to find the limit with such a box....Does it have any meaning? Comeon it`s fun and you are trying to derive a religion from it...

Simple, marcush. I cannot avoid to feel, very strongly, that Hamilton and Schumacher represent the glorification of egotism and anything-is-valid.

Maybe this thread (and many similar) are precisely about this point or maybe not, and the question is about lap times. If that's the case, my mistake.

Anyway, I recognize I stepped in territory where I shouldn't have stepped, definitely. I've renounced to be a moderator here, it's easier to renounce to be a poster, for the common good. So, don't worry, HampusA. I've noticed how many of my posts pass unnoticed in the brawls I see, I won't give you more posts to skip.

I thank everybody for the ride. Time to move on.

Ouch Ciro!
Without your contribution I would have another reason to skip this forum and read scarbs blog altogether...

Hmmmm, one thing we do know is that F1 driver comparison is kind of useless. There's more than just driving. They have influence in setup as well. Also various drivers can race harder with cars with oversteer, others with understeer, other cannot.

Despite good intentions, I think it's obivous a perfect comparison is impossible...
