More than anything else, I wanted to convey the idea of gentle guidance. That, in my mind, is paramount.
I agree with that, and I wasn't referring to you regards blame....

Two issues make this relevant to F1:

Firstly, safety of teams and fans. Bahrain is a small place and last time around there were protests and machine gun fire in the city centre. This has continued on and off since then, so could easily re-occur if protests flare up when F1 comes to town.

Secondly, a large number of circuit staff were summarily dismissed from their jobs on account of their ethnicity. A report I heard on the radio (or perhaps TV)interviewed many of them and they have not got their jobs back.

In a nutshell, the unrest in Bahrain has a direct impact on the running of the event.
Then let the event be cancelled due to security considerations. What should not happen is that it is then dressed up as a moral stand. If the GP cannot go ahead for security reasons then that should be viewed as nothing but a failure for all sides of the protests.

Will be dealt with soon but no time right now. Probably opened once it's taken care of.

Ecclestone gives advice to Bahrain protesters

Post

Ecclestone:
The protesters don´t need to resort to violence. All they need to do is stand on the road on the way to the circuit, with placards, and they would get their message out there. Nobody´s going to shoot them. If I was the organiser I would wait until 4 pm, or whenever the race starts blocking the road, a few thousand of them, and then go home. And if they successfully delay the race then they would get more coverage than they could dream of.
That could indeed be one possible strategy. With security forces deploying all kind of lethal weapons the tactic may become easily violent even if there are no intentions by the protesters.

It would be equally possible that protesters would take to the track once the cars are running and that would also be very dangerous indeed.

The sane thing would be calling off the race and running a replacement.

Bernie should give out free ticket to the protester so they can be seen on the broadcast, and fill out the empty stands...:D

Yep Bernie, that is it, as simple as you make it to be.

He talks as if many people haven't died in Bahrain protests previously. Even if the police doesn't do anything during the F1 event for PR reasons, they will pick them from their homes later and their families will never see them again.

Absolutely true...These other answers are rather simplistic in their thinking.

That is a quaint suggestion by Bernie. There was an anti-government protest just a week and a half ago by an estimated 100,000 people. One of their largest protests yet in Bahrain. I think Bernie should hope for some political give and take between the government and opposition groups rather than offering out of touch suggestions.

The FIA is preparing a statement to announce the cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix, sources in the paddock reveal to F1Today.net. It is expected that the statement will be published on the Thursday in China, one week before the scheduled race at Sakhir.
Anything else would be a surprise. The security of the race cannot be granted at the current situation in Bahrain.

The question of a replacement race seems urgent. The longer they wait the less chances the fans have to watch a race. Bernie and the teams will have been paid. They don't care, but we do!

Well that and there is a high threat of a terrorist attack at the event by "extreme" protesters...I hope this source bears fruit on Thursday before the Chinese GP and that the FIA consider seriously to remove the bahrain Grand prix.
