Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Hoping they get a real injection of pace from the upgrade, I think they are going to need it to keep up with Red Bull!

They tested visibility in monaco aswell

Everything points towards it. There's no way they were using that lump to test the visibility on next years car. The chassis will be made to accommodate the nose so will be engineered differently.

They would need a new bulk at the front to do a step since the whole front is pointing downwards.

Yes which is why earlier it was mentioned that apparently some crash tests had been done, and to have a step nose we all know it requires a new tub, as it requires the forward most bulkhead to be raised by 75mm,

that would be illegal to put on the car, (moveable aero) and the exhaust position has to be fixed

Did anyone see yesterday on The Flying Lap when Scarbs said a technical directive was issued in China(i believe) to McLaren about their splitter & t-tray area? McLaren had been using one that wasn't flat as the regulations call for and it was actually angled upwards 3°. Obviously they were getting an advantage from this and I'm not saying this lone area is where they were getting all of their pace from, but I'm sure they lost some pace from it for sure.

Stepped nose, ferrari front suspension test. So ferrari copy their exhausts, they go for ferrari front.
I wonder if they look the same at the end of year :D

but rules state no moveable aero on the car, lets take a hypothetical example: someones made a fan that pulls air under the car, so during inspections it doesnt move, and during the race it does, it is still illegal,,,,

It might just be an artifact of the imaging, but you can clearly see a 'peak' (i.e. point with no slope) just ahead of the tire. Is this a mistake or intentional?
