Not without crushing their drivers feet. Plus I think there's a reg for bulkhead dimensions.

why is the focus on the front of the car, when in red bulls case, there major update was the rear (exhausts mainly) which has gave them such a forward step. Shouldn't mclaren perhaps be looking at there exhaust/rear end set-up first?

THink of it like a river. If have cows passing faeces at the river head, then youre gonna have cow dung downstream.

excellent analogy, sums up the airflow around a f1 car perfectly, cow dung in a river =D> although on a serious note, get the air going to the rear, then deal with the rear :D

I know, i'm just wondering if the exhaust solution is that dependent on the front?

Maybe because they alrdy exhausted all the possibilities of development at the front ? Something mclaren hasnt not running a stepped nose and all.

yes, because if the air doesnt get to the correct place on the rear you cannot divert the air for your exhaust solution, to direct the exhaust gases to the diffuser

Lets say for every update they bring to the rear they gain 10points of downforce right now, but if they raise the nose and have more flow to the floor then now each of those updates brings 12.5points of downforce, plus any benefits they gain from the initial raising of the nose.

How many pounds/kilos is a "point" of downforce?

Shame they may have to go to stepped nose. The Macca is...well...was...one great looking car. I thought Lewis said at the beginning of the year that "beautiful is fast"...I guess we all know that's just simply not true.

Each team quantify downforce "points" differently - it's an arbitrary scale each team decides for their own internal use. To memory, Macca says every point of downforce is half a tenth (0.05 seconds).

In said context, 10/12.5 points of downforce seems a bit excessive. Was that just a random, arbitrary number to illustrate your point, perhaps?

EDIT: I'm talking rubbish. A "point" is talking in terms of cl, where 1 added point is 0.01 more in terms of cl.

Try looking here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8250
Q: Jenson Button has suggested you were ‘30 points’ behind Red Bull in terms of downforce and that it would take six or seven races to make up that deficit. Do you agree with that analysis and can you explain what ‘30 points’ means?

Paddy Lowe: A point is Formula One code for a hundredth of a fraction of ‘cl’, where ‘cl’ is the downforce coefficient. Physically a Formula One car has a downforce coefficient of let’s say 3 to 3.5. So 30 points would be 30 hundredths which would equate to 0.3. So 30 points might be getting on for 10 percent of the downforce on an F1 car and that could be worth about a second a lap.

Yeah it was an arbitrary number to demonstrate my point. The idea of a 25% increase was also just to show my point more clearly.

No and you can pretty clearly see the slight downwards bend on the top surface.

Old version for comparison:

Nothing obviously new on that front. Hopefully when it's built we'll see some of the updates they mentioned.
