Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

If it's another line of sight test rig I'm going to be disappointed.

While I can believe that was what the thing was, I don't believe it was for 2013.

Either you know something or you don't.

This seems a step back from the high nose you were predicting.

If you have some information to share, share it. But it safer to save face and wait to see what they bring and say that's what you "heard" from your source, I mean, I could do that.

I heard from a bloke down the pub near the McLaren works that on Friday you'll see something that you haven't seen before. Remember, you heard it here first!

Whitmarsh mentioned that there should be seven or eight modifications on the car for this race. The bigger package of updates will be for German GP (more "visual"/ "noticeable").

Ok so now we've heard it from the horses mouth, thank god there will be something new.

Someone on here said that its the German gp where the main updates will come and it seems Martin has backed that theory up.

So it leaves us with this, slight chance of a home win with the slight updates but a better chance of a win in germany- that'll suit the costumer engine supplier, seems mclaren have again targeted the wrong race with the major updates, so the British fans get the chance to watch the 'amazing' vettel win at red bills 'home' race. Money talks.....

How do you know the updates are slight? Just because the updates are more visually obvious does not necessarily mean they bring greater performance than the less obvious upgrades.

Targeting the wrong race, what a bizarre thing to say? McLaren, like any other team, are bringing upgrades as fast as they possibly can within the limitations of the design, development and manufacture process. If they haven't got upgrades for Silverstone it's because they cannot get the work done any quicker and have to wait until Germany.

Martin: Lewis mate, do mind if we hold those new upgrades back until Germany 'cause someone on the internet said we're targeting Germany and I'd hate to disappoint them?

Lewis: No worries mate, you take your time.

Looking forward to spotting the upgrades on the car, hopefully they can get them working out the box.

We'll just have to see what tomorrow brings.
Alot of rain I expect so not alot of track time, not ideal conditions for evaluating aero parts what ever size they are

Regaridng McLaren's pitstops.

What is to stop McLaren's pit box having a jack laid under where the car parks for a pitstop and then lifts the car up remotely without the trolley jack man their? Or even putting the trolley jack man at the side of the car. I would have thought that lifting the car from the side would be a better way than lifting it from the front & back would it not?

The rules.
23.5 Powered devices which assist in lifting any part of a car are forbidden in the pit lane during a race.
Lifting from the sides is probably acceptable, but I expect it would be worse than lifting from front and back – the car would be very badly ballanced.

I think he means something like a flat jacking plate with a ram underneath - the driver simply drives over it and the 'jack man' pushes a hydraulic cylinder down remotely?

Then they have to drive OVER something while coming into a pit box full of guys. Adding bumps to someplace requiring precision driving seems like a bad idea. And then any mistake is penalized more, since you would have more of a stationary jacking system.
