Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

Some tweaking to the overall shape but really not much different.

Now i know what Mclaren means with "big" package :)
small package might even mean taking parts of the car ;)
JB alluded to that, by putting more downforce on, you can take other parts off which in turn will give more performance

Can anybody elaborate in the side of the airbox section in this image?

It looks like they have a winglet (the mobil one logo is covered up slightly) Optical illusion?

I will defiantely agree to that, maybe just circuit specific?

There are a lot of upturned noses in the media. Anyway, not all the time the sources are right.

On the sidepods.
The real killer for the upgrade is the massive undercut. Almost like the Ferrari at the rear. The upper flanks of the side pod are flayed out giving a stingray look -starting much forwards and gently falling back making a small under-croft.

Also they have smaller (at the rear) low drag radiators with less cooling in the fins. The lack of radiator fins is made up by putting cooling gills behind the exhaust to increase air speed inside the side-pod.

The change of the front nose, i.e. the increase in height already suggested that side pod changes were to come. I see that McLaren now have a basis upon which they can develop - which is what RB and Ferrari initially came out with. McLaren will now use the new airflow to develop the rear of the car.

The new update aim to increase rear downforce, which they lack

But I think they now are at the limit with front downforce, with the not optimal nose shape
they have poor front DF and at previous races front wing was loaded at maximum
Last year this wing was able to support EBD only because of the low nose & snowplough
Now it suffices barely to generate enough front df
(Button suffer always of massive understeer ...)
Expect them to go to a new design sometime

Some blind people looking at these pics definitely more rounded intakes on the side pods exhaust positioning lower, less under cut at the front side pods more under cut at the back under the exhaust ramp mor down wash style pods trailing down from the top of the pods leading to exhaust ramp. Nobody has seen the back to comment on rear diffuser and nobody has a clue on what internals we can't see seems like a significant evolution of a car that isn't that bad and on its day just as fast as anyone on the front row.

If they wanted more front DF they would just put on the snowplough, they removed it cause they had to much front DF.

They removed the snowplough because they had too much downforce at the front which did not match the rear which had less because of the missing EBD.

Such a pain to navigate.

It kinda looks like they are trying to replicate the effect of Red Bull Valencia's side pod. Airflow of the undercut and the exhaust flow are clearly attempted to be seperated. It might be possible that in later races they will evolve closer to the tunnel of Red Bull.

Does the beam wing look somewhat deeper to anyone else?

I agree, the car becomes severely unbalanced, etc.
