If it rains, Merc should be very competitive. It is quite sad we're hoping for rain though

in quali sure Mercedes will be in top 6 with both car. difference between Monaco and Hungary is long DRS line. After 3-4 lap car lose pace with others so will be hard to maintain your position 10-16 laps per stint with DRS.JohnsonsEvilTwin wrote:zyphro wrote:I don't expect much for Merc in the race @ Hungary. 2 things.
First we have to see how the mapping law affects the team(s) that use aggressive mapping.
Mercedes have, for whatever reason, not been following this path.
Secondly, remember that Hungary is dubbed "Monaco without the walls". How did Mercedes fare at Monaco?
Pole position(stripped yes, but still the class of the field) and Rosberg hounded Webbers gearbox to the end.
I'm more optimistic for this race than any of the last 4 we have seen.
For what reason would you stop for tyre when there is not enough fuel left to go for it???zyphro wrote:The problem for Schumi was in quali: they wasted a set of mediums when they should've used the softs.marcush. wrote:Kobayashi and Perez head to head with Rosberg and Schumacher
Quite interesting comparison
http://en.mclarenf-1.com/index.php?page ... 3&dr1=Nico Rosberg&dr2=Sergio Perez
http://en.mclarenf-1.com/index.php?page ... 3&dr1=Nico Rosberg&dr2=Kamui Kobayashi
http://en.mclarenf-1.com/index.php?page ... r1=Michael Schumacher&dr2=Kamui Kobayashi
Looking there you can see that only towards the end MGPs strategy is not panning out ..as they are not quick enough to compensate for the extra stop.
Schumacher tried to carry on too long on prime tyre when Kobayashi was already pushing with the softs in the last stint.
had he changed five laps earlier it may have been a lot closer-he lost over 4 seconds in the course of 4 to 5 laps and he may have had more of his primes pushing them right to the limit.
You can see Mercedes are generally good in pitstops also inlaps marvelous but as I mentioned times after times the strategy seems uninspired and lacking whit.
No it would not make them winners
But yes ,Schumacher would have challenged Perez and Koba for position and that would have been a feast.
Also Schumi was saving fuel within his final stint.
Monaco isn't hard on tyres though, Hungary is isn't it?JohnsonsEvilTwin wrote:zyphro wrote:I don't expect much for Merc in the race @ Hungary. It is going be a disaster - we need rain else we can't expect much.

germany was fairly hot, and the track is all about braking and traction - which is why michael thought mercedes would fair better in germany than silverstone......instead they were just as awful.marcush. wrote:the headline says mercedes expects tough weekend ..but then none of the comments really reveal they expect to fare worse than in Germany or silverstone..
I don´t think w03 is bad in hot conditions and hungary seems to put empasis on braking and traction not really the weakness of the W03.
.
A different kind of hard. Monaco is high on wear but low on degradation, but because the Pirellis have so far been very wear-resistant, teams could still do a 1-stop. Hungary is high on degradation, and less so on wear - that has generally been what's eating the Pirellis this year.fiohaa wrote:Monaco isn't hard on tyres though, Hungary is isn't it?JohnsonsEvilTwin wrote:zyphro wrote:I don't expect much for Merc in the race @ Hungary.
