Pretty sure Ferrari wouldn't pull that move intentionally. "Clean" side or not, that's a lot of grid spots to throw away. If they really wanted to shuffle the end result they could have done it by doing stuff differently in qualifying, or pit strategy in the race, or whatever.

Not that I think any part of the track has a particularly high amount of grip anyway.

I'll pass on the conspiracy theories.

If the rumors are to be believed then they'll be removing 5 spots from massa, and giving 5 to alonso (1 due to the instant gain, 4 due to not losing places to clean side starters)... A net 0, but giving a team member a better chance at the WDC. I can see why they'd do it certainly.

It is all about ALO and grid side seems to be crucial. He gains one very valuable position (and maybe more). Of course it is intentionally and kind of unsportsmanlike but they have to do it and it is funny and and smart so I accept this.

I see it as removing 5 from Massa and giving 1 to Alonso. Speculating that because you start on the other side of the grid you'll pick up 4 spots is a stretch IMO.

Rumors are just that. I think the most likely scenario is they had to change a gearbox.. so they did. And that's that. That it happened to play out beneficially for Alonso I think is coincidence.

But of course it's more entertaining to jump to conclusions of unsportsmanlike conduct / conspiracy / manipulation, blah blah blah.

Has Hamilton a chance to win the race or will it be a vettel-race?

Kind of agree, as Luca said recently (below), no more excuses! Loss of WDC and Stephen Sundays principal role right there!

"But it's clear that we have to do more for the coming races. That is what I requested today of Domenicali and his team: we have 10 crucial days ahead, during which we must do everything to arrive in Texas with a car that can fight for the victory.

Take your head out of the sand mate, this is a cold calculated strategy to give Alonso a position off the start. Pretty typical of Alonso and Ferrari really. He's a real piece of work and Ferrari deserve him
