Sauber C32 Ferrari

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yes that is clear to see. And it seems to confirm a bit my concern/confusion about how the airflow around the sidepod would work with blowing the diffuser. The air moves mostly along the sides of the sidepods rather than over it blowing the plume inward rather than downward. I'm curious to see if there will be a version 2.0 of their sidepods / exhaust bulges soon. As it is I highly doubt they will achieve a significant blowing of the diffuser edges.

The exhaust are pointing outwards, with the airflow going inwards. That compensated alot already. Also the exhaust is inside a bulge, which does reduces the inward redirection somwhat.

The problem is that the plume doesn't really seem to follow the coanda ramp properly. McLaren, Ferrari and others use the flow over the sidepods to support the plume following the ramp. It seems this support is missing in this case. The plume appears to move mostly horizontally and inward. However, that is not what is generally considered as ideal for blowing the diffuser and somewhat resembles what RB was fighting against at the beginning of last season.

The plume is going inward but I wouldn't say they are going horizontally. It seems to be going down quite fine because otherwise you wouldn't see marks where they are as regulations mandate the pipes to point upwards

Probably the best image showcasing just how tight they are, (imo)

Interesting that slots near the side pod entrances are of different length. Either it's for comparison purposes, or due to different cooling needs for components in each side pod...

There was a good stint by the car today(17 laps with 1,4s drop from 1st to last) but unfortunately Ferrari's tire problem ruined the progression of those stints

Tomorrow is the "this is it" day. I'm eager to see what they can do on race simulation

PS: anybody noticed any new bit on the car?

Cooling of some sort.
