The last thing I want is Lewis ramming Nico.

I want him to win fair and square.

Under yellow flag conditions in qualifying, the countdown timer should be stopped in my opinion to give people a chance to get another lap in.
No one would have got another lap in here. There were only 40 seconds left on the clock, no where near enough to get round and start your lap.
If the countdown timer is stopped for about 30 seconds, you can make it almost round. But that's assuming they have enough fuel onboard.
Oh wait, I was misunderstanding... So the idea would be for everyone to stay out, and try not to cross the line, so that they can cross it just as the session restarts?

Or you could allow those who were on hotlaps an extra lap?

I believe so yes. Though it's still not all too likely this will give them an extra lap since it has to mean they are carrying too much fuel based on a non-yellowflag scenario.

It feels a bit rotten than there was no chance of any further pole times being set after the yellow flag.
Yes I like this idea a lot. I think each track would dictate a certain percentage of time left on the clock in which this rule would be instituted meaning if the yellow flag occurs within the time it takes to complete 2 "average" laps (or the slowest lap time of that session at that point) before the close of the session I would bring all the cars back to the pit lane, clear the track back to green, and allow 2 laps only to each driver participating in that session etc.. Or something like that.

Yeh, there is no doubt there would be a problem in implementation lol.

I think there has to be a better solution than what we had today... whether or not that is achievable at a reasonable cost is the question.

Anyway, only food for thought

But now he has a chance to win fair and square. Thing for Rosberg is now most people will call it a dodgy pole, which it is, he just didn't do it on purpose.

I think the solution we had today worked well. If Lewis wanted pole, he should have set a hotter lap than Nico in his first run.

Notably, any solution that took that risk out of it would prevent the first runs from ever happening (why waste the tyres if there's no risk).

Ok, stage is now set for epic race tomorrow..

Hows the track side atmosphere at Monaca without the screaming V8?

Plus most tracks you'd need new tyres as they only normally get 1 lap. Today was different. Unique. Like a wet session.

I think that would cause more problems than it solved. What about the guys who were ahead of the incident on a flying lap? And how and when do you restart the timer? Depending where you were on track you could get another lap in or miss out completely.

I think they should do it rally style, in that you release 1 driver and then another after a set interval, then another, they do 1 flying lap and return to the pit. Have it so there's only 4-5 cars on track at once and if any incident occurs you restart the session from the car after the one that caused it. 2-4 runs each, random lottery draw as to which order they go in each run.

I just hope Lewis keeps his head, 2nd place isn't the end of the world tomorrow.

Take it and move on to Canada.

Now the stewards have looked at all the data and telemetry, Lewis needs to let it go, focus on a good start and take it from there. Should be a good race with hopefully some overtakes through the field given the loss of downforce and EBD and possible showers :)
