in FP 1 and FP 2 the machine not over heat ,,,, but performance still under expectation,,

What is that carbon fibre structure on the back of the radiator? Are they trying to manage sidepod-internal airflow maybe?

Such neat packaging and also very encouraged by no change on bodywork size in hot climate. First detail shots I've seen of the engine reveal quite a few details we can now fully confirm.

Split turbo front and rear of ICE
Exhaust turbine very low, in bellhousing

Anyone spot anything else?

Someone said still worry on pace? Your kidding right?? Massive difference/improvement in comparative pace already. If this improvement keeps up imagine the car by European season.

Nothing new, teams have been doing this for years. Quite impressed with this design though. Very clever internal aero here. I'm sure this is one of PP's real talents and was a significant part of Red Bulls advantage over these few years.

First seconds are the easy ones: improved set up, better tyre temps, and any boost in ERS management implies massive changes in driveability that basically have a positive impact on everything.

Though improvements were clear even without looking at the laptimes: quite a more "normal" cruising could be seen on the TV.

I expect they will get on 1,5 gap quite fast, then comes the big challenge.

Also clever management of the situation: flow viz, avoiding unnecessaraly harsh race simulations because... no better race simulation than the actual race ^^

In the end the long nose path taking into account circumstances... has been a wise move: it would have been a waste of resource going for a more radical approach there.

Absolutelly. They are showing signs of being in an alternative a little bit "indie" type of development style... sacrificing some bit here, maximizing what they can actually do. If they are able to get where they want to get, it is gonna be beautiful for us amateurs. It is great when strategy and engineering are bundled together in an unusual way.

BTW, the guts of this car are incredibly asseptic and tight.

It looks like they could still shrink the body work at the rear if cooling allowed. The Honda Unit is very compact. The exhausts look to be normal, not log style.

The cooler on the top is the gearbox oil cooler. They had to clear the pathway behind the engine for the sidepod flow.
It's an illusion that they have small cooling outlets on the sidepods. What they have done is split the cooling and shifted some of it upwards and to the centre. For this to work efficiently, with the least restriction, the gearbox cooler had to be moved out of the bottle neck area behind the engine.
It's a very nice philosophy, and it worked well because of the compactness of the honda unit, which to me has very compact cylinder heads and also compressor at the front of the engine.

It also looks like their variable intake length system is smaller than Mercedes, or at least the charge air box.
