Mercedes should really be kicking their own behinds for giving it away like that. Bravo, Toro Rosso, too!
I don't think they gave it away.

The tyre use of the ferrari would have put vettel in hamiltons mirrors. Ferrari definitely have an ace up their sleeve on the hotter tracks.
Imagine if Kimi had a good qualifying?
For Sure!!

We need to wait for the next race to see if this was just a temperature-related aberration or a real resurgence. Australia suggests that the Mercedes is still quicker in"normal" conditions.

If mercedes just stayed out after the safety car they wouldve finished 1-2. Drive of the day to Kimi though, mega recovery after that puncture, I didn't think he would score any points. Nico looking pretty silly for his comments 2 weeks ago.

I think schadenfreude applies here and it's a German concept too...

Can anybody explain to me how LH did not have a set of good softer compound for the end?

Yes they used a set in Q1. But they used inters in Q3 which balances it.

Its almost like they lost the race on purpose. Was Lewis on the softer compound at the end, he would have won and they managed to find a set for NR!!

Neither did I. I missed the first half of the race, but it looks like Mercedes very much screwing up tyre strategy combined with Ferrari having a tad more pace.

Looking at how Vettel looks, I think we can assume that he wasn't cruising at the end so the pace difference is much closer than it might appear to someone who hasn't watched the race. He was obviously driving very hard to keep ahead.

He was lapping constantly in the low 44s. Kimi's fastest lap was a low 44. Kimi was lapping in the 45s in the last stint. So, yes, you can bet he fought as hard as he could.

It looked like that in the end with track temperatures dropping a bit that the pace advantage oh so slighty swung back to Mercedes. However, Mercedes definitely has some work in this area. The Ferrari looks like a mighty all rounder, operating in a very wide window.

But terrible strategy from Merc. Just terrible. Stopping 1 more time yet ending up with almost the exact same stint length and same tyre in the final stint is unexcusable.

Yeah, thinking back on all those quick Lotus cars Allison produced on a lean budget, it is clear the dude didn't simply strike lucky.
