Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

Spain was a clear indication of the process of this, and next race which was Monaco delivered the result (new rear end definetly helped to get the result, due to the characteristics of Monaco). Canada will be bad, Austria could be next step up the ladder, and due to Canada "testing session", Monza could be good. All the software in the world cant give u the feedback, which u get from the miles on the tarmac.
Or Monza could be very painful.
If the engine wont contribute, then yes, without the doubt.

It isn't entirely sure if Honda uses these Tokens for Canada. Motorsport Total claims they use them in Austria. Guess we will have to wait for more sources.

I don understand this,i thought you can use tokens only on a unused PU,in Honda case this will be 4th engine, and if teams dont agree over 5th PU how will Honda use other tokens?

That has crossed my mind, but you would hope for more tokens than!?
I guess they are confident 5th would be allowed.

Longer they can hold the tokens, longer they can develop. They ditched this season and more less testing...

Both JB and FA are on their 3rd ICE, TC, ES, and CE. JB is on his 2nd MGU-K and FA on his 3rd.

Realistically, with 13 rounds to go, they are probably going to take two more of everything. They will have data to suggest which of each is nearest to the end of its service life, and those components close to the end of their service life are likely to either need replacing in Canada or fail in Canada.

Wisely IMO, Honda don’t want to be locked in to the same spec components for another 4-5 rounds, will likely be looking in to using the token to coincide with the end of the useful life of the component.

They clearly have confidence that the areas where the tokens have been spent have decent development longevity, so therefore, low risk from both developmental point of view, i.e they are sure they won’t need to spend further tokens in the same area, and a reliability point of view.

They may well go through the weekend with the same PU spec as Monaco. This will help them avoid using a 6th PU component later in the year. A 5th PU at this stage is inevitable.

Does honda care about using a 5th or 6th or 7th engine?

I don't think so. The really have nothing to lose.

Indeed, this is a testing season so picking up penalties doesn't matter, getting the engine quick and reliable is all that they need.

I Agree with what the other guy's have said, short term pain for long-term gain! not ideal that they will take penalties however they are not going to get the Engine to the level they need without pushing hard!
