Brakes

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Here are the Ferrari and McLaren brake systems in the Sao Paolo paddock.Image
Regarding Ferrari using AP discs for at least Canada, wouldn't there be contractual issues with Brembo :?: Or maybe Ferrari can use any disc supplier as long as the caliper is Brembo. :?

Which caliper supplier does Mclaren currently have :?:

he switched back... at least for monza.

mainly because hitco needs more cooling. And brake ducts are most important at monza for aero.

Contractual issues won't be much of an issue, they can cut deals with brembo and whatnot.

Some unused space for advertising/logos on the car might be "owned" by a sponsor but say for 1 or a few races some other company wants to use it they can cut a deal no problems.

From one of the various brake supplies mentioned before, Brembo. This is from the official Brembo site featuring an "article" about the brake system used on the Corvette ZR1. It has a complete description about the brake system on the ZR1 version, but what interested me most was chapter 6 (Start to Finish), which describes the production process for CCM brake discs. Even though it isn't an intense description, it offers the basic steps which are taken to manufacture a CCM brake disc (seven steps total).

It's all about the feeling/taste/preference of them for each driver. How a car brakes is one of the most overlooked things in the motorsports.

I'm not certain but I'm sure you can mix and match calipers, discs. Don't see why not.
I think someone here(in this thread) said Ferrari changed to AP for Canada, but they still were using Brembo calipers. So that's a good example.
?
Does that mean that only the disks vary between different companies not the calipers? I'm sorry for another question, it seems like an interrogation!
Yes - in the main the calipers stay the same and it is the pad and disc material that is changed. Mainly for feel and in some cases, like Canada, for durability.

Once a driver has found his preferred pad and disc combination then they will try to stick with it pretty much every race.
