Framework For Discussion - F1 2011 Engine Reg.

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I bet the 2011 framework will change a lot!

I think that this was already posted, but WTF!
The consequences of an energy-restricted regulation are:
• The rpm of the engines will be dramatically reduced and the sound of the cars will be different, but not necessarily unappealing to fans.
I think that less of 17000RPM would suck! :x
• A degree of restriction over time will be introduced as the technical solutions begin to mature.
Now, is this technological dictatorship or what?
(2) The sport is open to justifiable criticism that it is not just wasteful; it actually glorifies excess, flying in the face of societal problems such as global warming and sustainability.
Just the same my girlfriend says to me every saturday night I don´t want to hang out cause there is a F1 race on 3 o´clock of sunday morning. But nevermind, she doesn´t understand what 19.000RPM means.

This news (the constructors proposal) should recall us (me included) that we should not take for guaranteed the FIA regulations.

Recently i was talking with one ING renault team guy and he told me the 2009 regulations are even not fixed now (despite the pdf being aviable on the FIA site).

In a way, that's cool. Constructors are the counter part from performance to the FIA "costs will kill us".

This is the constructors that are actually testing and proposing the 2009 aero regulations and i think it was the constructors that asked the FIA to let more freedom on 2008 engines regulations.

God saves the teams....and us.

I think FIA has changed a bit their mind, they take more things in advance (well they try) , avoiding to be outpaced by Teams technological advances, then teams discuss the rules.

This was very different before.

Actually i read somewhere that ferrari was happy with the engine freeze because it helped them to increase the efficiency of the engine.

The bad thing for me is that 2013 is so far away..i would like to see radicaly different formula one cars soon! (i'm tired of the 2004+ evolutions).

Not to mention that 3 am races are the best races. You can mutter to yourself without people calling you mad... :)

That is quite

unfathomable from an engineering, a social, an environmental and even a moral standpoint. Certainly many on this board will review their level of interest. Road going cars will beat F1 into oblivion in every respect during that period. They will have to, just yesterday it was revealed that Earth's CO2 absorption capability has been compromised far more (tens of percents) than was anticipated.

Currently I'm in a bit of a loss for words.

Ogami mushashi, it's probably just another political-game stategy press release and not the final word on the engine development regulations. We will see a lot more dialogue on the subject.

Carlos, i'm not quite sure, this is the result of a WMSC meeting so that means teams were there and everybody agreed.

It is written that in 5 years from 2008 a change can be accepted so it makes 2013, like what teams proposed.

I do hope things will change in 2013 then.

If manufacturers agreed this they are totally insane and more than stupid. Not only because F1 wil became technologically irrelevant, but also because if your competitor designs a better engine, he will have advantage over you for 5 years till you can change something in your engine??? I think that Toyota and Honda should worry. They suck now, are they comfortable feeling that they will continue sucking for a lustrum?

FIA and its engine freeze rules :x
Its time for the engineers to design a good reliable engine and take a long holiday for 5 years.

FIA taking formula1 in a complete backward direction.their cost cutting strategies will one day eliminate all the technological advances that has been made so far.And will no better than any ordinary race series. It will never be regarded as the pinnacle of motor sport.
