I think anyone who saw Max vs Sainz and thought he was leaps and bounds ahead of anyone else was not paying enough attention. Sainz is very good too and, on balance, Max probably looks that tiny bit better (and younger) but the margin was virtually non-existent.djos wrote:I have to agree, Dan outclassed Max in all 3 qually sessions very comfortably.rayden wrote:Amazing the development rate that RB constantly brings.
The shine is coming off verstappen a bit for me. He a potential champ, but he not the "once in a generation driver" he was billed as coming in.
Btw I was very impressed by Fernando's efforts grabbing a top 10 starting slot! =D>

If it doesn't rain of course
they need to use the S at least once if it's dry, it's the (only) mandatory tire for this racebasti313 wrote:VET or RAI may go for US-SS-S or maybe even US-US-SS, if they end up behind after the start. 1-stop for VET if he is P3, but this will be hard with the older US.
They're mandatory to have it availabe, not mandatory to actually use it.search wrote:they need to use the S at least once if it's dry, it's the (only) mandatory tire for this racebasti313 wrote:VET or RAI may go for US-SS-S or maybe even US-US-SS, if they end up behind after the start. 1-stop for VET if he is P3, but this will be hard with the older US.
They don't but why all those two stoppers suddenly (previous post)? Raikkonen maybe, I don't understand one run in Q3 and of course he blew it anyway but why others?search wrote:they need to use the S at least once if it's dry, it's the (only) mandatory tire for this racebasti313 wrote:VET or RAI may go for US-SS-S or maybe even US-US-SS, if they end up behind after the start. 1-stop for VET if he is P3, but this will be hard with the older US.
Just some thoughts on who may go different...not sure of course, if anyone will do it.iotar__ wrote:They don't but why all those two stoppers suddenly (previous post)?search wrote:they need to use the S at least once if it's dry, it's the (only) mandatory tire for this racebasti313 wrote:VET or RAI may go for US-SS-S or maybe even US-US-SS, if they end up behind after the start. 1-stop for VET if he is P3, but this will be hard with the older US.
Just one set of new US left. So they did what they usually do in this case: Go for one run in the middle of the 2-runs done by the others.iotar__ wrote: Raikkonen maybe, I don't understand one run in Q3 and of course he blew it anyway but why others?
I do not see Vet doing anything else but 1-stop if he is on P3 after the start, as you say just because of traffic. He will go for an early stop at lap 20 to put a bit of pressure on the Mercs if he is still close at this point and traffic allows it. Otherwise extend as long as possible...the Mercs have better tires and can just wait until Vet has to pit.iotar__ wrote: It's a one stop dry/colder race. I don't want to be negative but it would be safer to keep Vettel behind Merc than to risk traffic and rely on overtaking. SC is another issue. Ok he's running third how early they'd have to make the first stop on a two stopper, I assume rather late (for tyre difference)? We'll see but I doubt it especially with 2 vs 1 driver and Red Bull behind (normal start).
How does that work, and what's the point of it then ?Juzh wrote:They're mandatory to have it availabe, not mandatory to actually use it.search wrote:they need to use the S at least once if it's dry, it's the (only) mandatory tire for this racebasti313 wrote:VET or RAI may go for US-SS-S or maybe even US-US-SS, if they end up behind after the start. 1-stop for VET if he is P3, but this will be hard with the older US.
mmh, that's not what Pirelli announced though:Juzh wrote:They're mandatory to have it availabe, not mandatory to actually use it.search wrote:they need to use the S at least once if it's dry, it's the (only) mandatory tire for this racebasti313 wrote:VET or RAI may go for US-SS-S or maybe even US-US-SS, if they end up behind after the start. 1-stop for VET if he is P3, but this will be hard with the older US.
Well, of course they might have used ones available. But interesting, that 2 times Soft is mandatory...why did they cut down the strategies like that???search wrote:mmh, that's not what Pirelli announced though:Juzh wrote:They're mandatory to have it availabe, not mandatory to actually use it.search wrote:

These are the MANDATORY tyres to be available for the race: 2 two sets of P Zero Yellow soft
Each driver must have both these sets available for the race, and must use at least one of them.

seems like my list of available tires up there is not quite correct then though as I have some drivers with only 1 S left (while 2 have to be available)
yeah, sure, McLaren and Haas (those who I had down with only 1 set of Softs left), must have a used set available then, and therefor one less from the other.basti313 wrote: Well, of course they might have used ones available. Sorry. You're right. This then makes this race 100% a one stopper.search wrote:mmh, that's not what Pirelli announced though:Juzh wrote:They're mandatory to have it availabe, not mandatory to actually use it.search wrote:

Agree. Besides in an interview after quali he admitted that he wasn't going full out because he got the order of the team that he should play it safe (due to the Monaco debacle). During the qualifying laps he was well away from the wall of champions. Compare that to last year, where he left rubber marks just about every lap.f1316 wrote:I think anyone who saw Max vs Sainz and thought he was leaps and bounds ahead of anyone else was not paying enough attention. I actually think he's doing well to be so close to ricciardo so soon, given that it's a car/team ricciardo knows much better and he himself is probably one of the faster drivers out there. So with expectations in check, personally I think Max is doing well.
Accuweather says likely rain before but none during the race.GoranF1 wrote:anyone knows latest forecast for the race?
