Well he actually didn't violate broke that rule because it was meant for inlap . He wasn't on in lap. He did another fast lap otherwise he could be penalized

I don't understand one thing - did the stewards believe that 27.5 applied or not?

- If they knew that he wasn't on an in lap then why summon him in the first place?

- If they didn't know and only realised that the rule doesn't apply it really doesn't speak for their aptness to do the job.

It wouldn't surprise me if the rule was complemented with something for cooldown and outlaps.

Seems to be the consensus. https://twitter.com/thebuxtonblog/statu ... 4570818560 But yeah, the rule isn't very well written, saying "at no time may a car be driven unnecessarily slowly" and then only mentioning the safety car line maximum time in reference to in-laps and reconnaissance laps.

There's an interesting reply on reddit that might explain why:

It was written a few years ago when they used to qualify with race fuel on board.

It became a bit of a trend to drive slowly on the in lap to save fuel (thus leaving more for the race), this was judged to be dangerous because although some cars were on in laps others were on flying laps and would come across cars on very slow in lap.

- Hmm, RB in front of Ferrari is perfectly correct but depending on how you look at it: Ham- Rosb - yes, Ricc- Vers - no, Vett- Raikk - no.
- Considering 0,26 between Raikk and Ricc (looking two years back not the best track for him) that's where Vettel should have been, in front or close behind.
- I don't care about penalty but if that wasn't blocking by Magnussen I'd be doing it to my opponents every race.

What a shame about the deleted time of Alonso, we would have started P7 with Vettel's penalty, now only P9

Ferrari seem to be in there usual development slump but this time can they turn it around or will they do what they usually did when Alonso was in the team and give up and focus on the next year

I don't think it's that simple. On the aero side they're pretty bound by the time they can spend on CFD and in the tunnel. They used up valuable time with the switch from pull to push rod, recalculating basically everything. Plus they can't just switch electronic and engine engineers to the aero or suspension departments.
But it must sting, from second and reliable last year, now third and lots of broken gearboxes

From Vettel:
For sure I was on a good lap on the first one, the first attempt [in Q3] and then obviously I lost the rear in Stowe. I was able to catch it but the majority of the lap time was lost," he said.
"Then on the second approach I started similar to the first, but I just went in a little too deep and wide in Turn 1 and then it was difficult to recover from there. So, I didn't have good laps in qualifying when it mattered.

Based on his Q2 time which was 1.30.711 and 3 tenths down on the fastest red bull in Q3 im hesitant to conclude that red bull is generally the faster car....Ferrari is on a roll as of late with blunders from everyone except Kimi lol

That's a lot of people to be focusing on the engine, isn't this team as big as Mercedes? Either they've downsized to a force India/Williams headcount or the chassis department have been sat on deck chairs on a beach somewhere.
