Ok, time for my KERS concepts...

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

I was a bit taken aback

by the introduction of a financial aspect to all this, my remark wasn't meant as an attempt to censor anyone or suggest anyone should take their entire virtual presence elsewhere for some reason. I do not want to determine that, not least because I'm not in a position to do so. Money is a whole another can of worms and pretty much everyone has to deal with the stuff and worry about it pretty much everywhere else. I can imagine it becoming an unwelcome impediment of some sort in F1 Technical too, if we're not conscious about some academy-ish standards that perhaps should be held onto in here.

It also appeared a bit frivolous to introduce the financial aspect into all this based on a couple of notions (especially compared to how hard I've had to work to secure any funding for anything at all) about systems that are being extensively researched the World over with practically no expense spared as we write. As far as resources go, Carlos actually isn't joking about being able to find accessible resources online. Should you go through F1T's message history, you'll find a lot of interesting stuff. Essentially for free, save for our nitpicking and tedious company.

Chris, dont feel bad, you can post everything you want here, ALWAYS IF WHAT YOU POST IS ABOUT F1!!! That seems to be the case here:

Problem: you want to talk about concepts, but we are talking about F1.

Solution: lets talk about concepts, but stricktly concepts for F1 cars. Otherwise you can always post in "other" forum topic

Now, about your idea, I´ll show you why its not good enough:

1) Nobody who likes F1 likes a 50 HP diesel engine (inside F1)

2) Lets say efficiency of Mechanism W and X are 0.9 each (wich is good). Now we have got Mechanism Y, with 0.9 efficiency and Mechanism Z, with 0.9 efficiency, too.
We have then 4 mechanisms connected, all of them with high efficiency:
Now, look what happens with Overall efficiency : 0.9*0.9*0.9*0.9=0.65!!! Wich is not so good.

Now picture this
ICE engine eff: 0.4 (very but very optimistic)
Gearbox (0.95)
Diff (0.95)
Overall: 0.36
Add an hidraulic system in the middle (you tell me how to store hydraulic fluid energy) with 0.8 eff and a generator with 0.9eff and... tatan tatan...:
0.25 It sucks!!! :(

Keep trying man, something can eventually came out, who knows, thats why brainstormings where invented!

I was trying to play devils advocate

If you want a bunch of people to tell you how awesome your ideas are you are in the wrong place most of us will find the flaws in your design its what most of us do for a living It up to you to fix the problem. You seem to be saying I have this great idea now you guys make it work.

I can tell most ideas are great until one runs the numbers.

Ive seen way to many people solve the cheap energy solution that just need one magic part to make it all work.
