I think this is the way to simulate those changes. They are increasing the front wing middle section and eliminating the outwash tunnel as a factor. Furthermore the tunnel will stay more wide at the new 2017 front wings.
For me this is a way to investigate how the flow will be shaped after (and between) the wider tires and bigger middle wing section.
