This could be a desaster for Liberty though - wait until Fred praises the V8 engines ... unless it's all part of their plan to get NA V6 / V8 engines back in F1.... :D
Indycar engine is no longer a V8. It is a 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged, V6 engine. Has been for 3 years.

Thanks, see how much I've followed it recently...and I'm American :-)

If he has a competitive car it wouldn't surprise me if he won the race.

A past his best Mansell showed the gulf in class between F1 and US open wheel racing, Fred will do the same.

The HPD unit in the Indy car is greatly improved this year in power and FE. It finally bests the Chevy.

It'll be quite the adjustment for Alonso. The strategy in Indy high speed oval racing is different. I do expect him to be up towards the front with Montoya!

Since Indicar is more a entertainment Show than a sport event, do you think the organisers, Honda,Liberty & Zack cut a deal to make Fernando win...

The publicity potential will be huge for F1, Honda, Indi and Mclaren.
This is utter tripe! It is a huge sports event.

I genuinely hope Button will get to drive in Monaco!
I just don't hope he drives, I hope he wins!

There's one thing he must not forget. You can't block in Indycar.

Well, you won't need to block while you are overtaking the rest of the pack.

V6 since 2012
Unlike F1 fans who are divided with our opinions about turbo, Indy fans have no qualms with turbo V6 engines.

I can't really blame you for not knowing this since it is no big deal for Indy fans.

Indy never had the high revving engines that F1 fans grew accustom to. They still revved relatively high compared to road cars, but nothing like the 20k rpm machines of the past F1. I actually preferred the Indy cars. You could feel the growl of the engines on your chest as they flew down the straight.

To add, Andretti cars finished 1-2 at last year's 500. Alonso will have a good package.

To me this makes it quite clear that this is Fernando Alonsos last season in F1. He has come to terms with the facts that he will never get a drive in a car that allows him to challenge the number of championships of Vettel and Hamilton and is instead going for a more legendary title. Nope, not Indy 500, but the tripple crown of motorsport. That hasn't been done since 1961, and would ensure his place as one of the truly great.

I don't think anyone else on the grid today could do it.

The closest racer at the moment able to do it is Nico Hulkenberg, all he has to do is win Monaco this year and Indy 500 next.

Hmm some valuable points could be lost at Monaco because of this, but I guess the (hopefully positive) publicity for McLaren along with making Alonso happy outweighs some unlikely points.

I'll definitely be watching the Indy 500.
