Caterham CT-05 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The packaging and detail is impressive in an absolute sense. Then I realize--
1. This is an ancient two-year old car
2. This is a back-marker car

OMG.

When teams like Ferrari or Williams etc. lease legacy cars to wealthy individuals, they should include CAD files. Extra value to customer at essentially no cost to F1 team.

Actually, shouldn't the FIA require complete CAD files of all current cars, and then release them when they are two years old? Is there any scenario where this would be bad for F1 as a sport or as a business?

If a team like Caterham or Marussia goes bancrupt it might be possible to get those files; but bigger and still existing teams probably won't want anyone to have such specific details. Even if it's not bad for F1 as a sport.
If you no longer go for the space someone always has to leave, you're no longer a racing driver

The oil cooler is oddly placed in the sidepod, and is probably part of the reason for their very large size. Don't understand exactly why this was done.
