there wasn't anything in particular from an exterior cause [puncture through debris fe] that caused the tires to give right? in other words - it was ferrari themselves to blame? so, tactics. i'm also fairly sure Vettel's flat spot by his braking lockup had a big fault in this.
Pirelli said Vettel had a slow puncture, so I could easily see the flat spot or the blisters he was complaining about being the root cause. They still don't know what caused Kimi's issue, but to me it looked like the sidewall and tread interface just gave out.

This is definitely starting to look like a trend with Ferrari though. In 2015, 2016, and now 17, they've had issues with the tires around the midpoint of the season that no one else had had.

Either way, they will have to be carefull in Hungary, because a "puncture" here will be incredibly hard to recover from.

Mercedes is always strong, Ferrari has a drag and slight engine deficit, but more pure downforce. I think the red cars will be much closer than they were in Silverstone. Red Bull can only play spoiler here, and can get one of their cars on the podium depending on mistakes made by the other teams, but I don't think they have the pace to win. Vettel needs to win this one, the stakes are huge and losing ground to Hamilton here will end his title chances. Mercedes should win WCC unless the team makes several blunders.

Total Ferrari track. Hamilton needs to win here or his title chances are over.

Probably see Ferrari overtake Merc in WCC at this race.

RB will bring many updates so I expect them to be very strong. As it happens with Honda this track should be the best for them. If they can´t fight for the victory in Hungary I am afraid the season is over for RB.

Expecting a close battle between Ferrari and Mercedes, but I do hope Ferrari can be stronger here, their great downforce levels should help them.

You don't want to have grid penalties in Monza [home crowd], Singapore [risky track], COTA [ i think Favours Ferrari this year] and Mexico [even last year they did rather well there], and then slap yourself in the face when your competitors make errors or get problems which gets you close instead of way ahead in the race.
Spa is in my opinion the best place. Mercedes will be stronger but you can overtake and at least be third on the podium. I can´t see any other team being faster than Ferrari in the battle to reach the podium.

And they will be gree of penalites for Monzan, where they "must" win.

where did their performance go? is it really the oil burning? :wtf:
FIA also stated they're going to intensify scrutineering on oil burning. could bring some interesting results.
I have read somewhere that those restrictions will be even bigger from Monza.

What makes you say that, is there anything to back this up? Yes the car has a shorter wheelbase and slightly more rake, but the amount of vortices generated on the Mercedes would increase it's drag considerably too. I'm not sure i'm with you on Ferrari having a higher drag car.

I was thinking about how the bumps on this track could help/hurt certain teams, but I had forgotten that they resurfaced it last year!

A number of posts about Ferrari and Marchionne have been removed as they have no relevance to the Hungarian GP
