McLaren MCL33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It is an optical illusion. That is only the curve where the sidepods meet the floore nothing more.
So it is! The orange is simply reflecting on the black floor making it seem like a feature. Should have looked harder, but I was convinced! Thanks for the reply

https://formulaone21.wordpress.com/2018 ... -analysis/

According to this analysis, which i discovered today morning (i missed it until now) the larger Roll hoop inlets we are seeing this year are for making possible "to raise part of the cooling system, to permit narrower sidepods for greater rear end performance"
This will result to Higher CoG but better rear end performance.

Mclaren is staying loyal to its philosophy to Keeping most of the cooling parts as low as possible for better CoG thus relying mostly to side air inlets for coolling and not on the roll hoop inlet.

Also according to this analysis, MCL33 has a bigger floor thus an increased wheelbase. Maybe not as long as Mercedes or the new Ferrari, but its longer than last year for sure.

How on earth do McLaren have such a small engine roll hoop inlet compared with Renault and Red Bull, and yet their sidepods are also tiny? They have done a great job of packaging the PU and one would imagine this first iteration is also conservative and may get tightened up even more once they know the cooling works. Dare I say, could this be a sign of McLaren bringing back cutting edge innovative technology, as they used to have regularly?
Maybe they've gone full microtube.

You can see in the radiator shots that the side pod bodywork is a bit wider than the radiators would require, looks like they're leaving a bit of a void within the bodywork.

I've seen this pic in Twitter, could this be correct?
The car seems really short here.

Look at the size of the wheels and the width of the rear wing. It doesn't seem proportionally correct.

There's absolutely no way to compare two different photos from two different cars taken by two different studios at two different angles wiht two different lenses.

Ferrari will probably have a slightly longer wheelbase this year compared to Mclaren , but the difference in the pic is huge. No way this pic is representative.
