Why would they need to?

The same holding company owns both RBR and STR. It would not be too difficult to obtain characteristics of both the Renault and the Honda, in fact it would be utterly essential for designing components that are partly shared between the two teams like the gearbox.

It would be in Honda's interests (if not Renault's) for their information to be shared amongst the wider RBR company to make it easier for the latter to take a decision to dump Renaults for them for 2019. In fact since getting an RBR contract is the only way for Honda to reach the front of the grid I suggest Honda would have insisted upon it.
If Honda really want victory may come Toro Rosso too but redbull is easy and cheaper way
I don't think it would be easy or cheaper, Red Bull is more high maintenance than the junior team, but probably easier to work with than McLaren.
Easier to work with, I wonder if Renault feels the same. The amount that Honda paid McLaren also seems to be getting with the minute.

They not feeling the same, but in reality they just f* up the last couple of years so no blame to RB. RB is there to win and get prizes so no bs around like Renault is doing. Ah well McLaren will see and i'm curious what Alonso is gonna cry about this time :D

Plot twist:

Honda buy STR at the end of 2018, and refuse to supply Red Bull for 2019->.

Impossible, 2021 can be.

Key said they are working with Honda on plans for 2019. The SRT13 was not designed with the Honda engine in mind. Hopefully in 2019 they get a better benefit from this new association.

Honda will have 2 factory teams in 2019 and Red Bull are not high maintenance it is Renault and specifically Cyril that is high maintenance. Red Bull is simple to deal with as all you have to provide them with is a competitive engine and they will win you championships.

It looks like Toro Rosso will be extremely competitive in the midfield all throughout the year. We can now see the potential the Honda has in a modern era chassis.

That is true

TR looked strong with soft tires. And they have not done classification simulations in comparison with others. They were always long runs.

This may not be a million miles from the truth. I can certainly see Honda buying STR, but also supplying RB...
To paraphrase Wasarisan's nephew; they get dumped by the old supermodel, date the cute girl next door for a year, marry that cute girl the next year and also take on a young supermodel mistress.

a good thing about torro rosso, is that they listening to honda suggestions. and did what they asked. whereas previously honda were told here are the design limits of our chassis we want you to build an engine. which is pathetic. honda should have taken control but they didnt and did not pay off as all the blame was directed at them. now with torro rosso, there bit more common ground work and is showing good as a result

Why would they buy STR, makes no sense at all.

Peter Sauber sold Sauber but teams name still Sauber. If redbull determined to use Honda PU they can sell Toro Rosso with a Pu supply condition.
In the other hand we know that honda has intend to supply more than one.

If RB offer them with 50% price off, 300 mio to 150, why not?

There's no doubt it's been a great week for STR Honda. It makes me wonder if there's a Honda equipped RB14 in 'building 9' (or whatever it's called) being punished all day long gathering data..?
I think we can say that Honda equipped rb14 car is called Str13.
Not a change. More like STR13B or RB15 for mid season and next year. STR and RBT done it first then RBR would follow and improve. As next year engine is unconfirmed, RBR just seeing STR work closely

This year, the TR looks more like the RB.
Many pages that did an analysis said the same thing. Obviously there is a data transfer
They want to adopt 100% RB rear before get honda, abandon merc nose, and RBT help to create rear suspension and integrate honda PU. Even if no direct data transfer, engineer from RBT answer that
Edit reason: cannot find the quotation for number of RBT engineer involved
