team said they're focusing on 2019 car, surely there must be some carry over from this year, unless next years car is radically different.
Not necessarely. Concentrating on next year could also mean that they are trying to fix correlation issues. That does not necessarely mean running next years parts, but understanding current.

What I do not understand is that they are not running the C-spec engine. Yes it would provide an integration challenge and eat up some resources. But they could be doing themselves a favor for next year by helping Renault to debug the engine.
They'll have to revisit the packaging which they can't because focus is on next year's redesigned car.

Yes, but I also assume they want a competitive and reliable powersource.

I think RB shows that the spec C has potential but is not bug free. The only way to get it better is by running it, something Renault cannot afford to do due to their tight position in the WCC.

James Key can not arrive soon enough....

We are in desperate need of GOOD Management.
Well he won't have any input on 2019 car, will be 2020 hopefully if they can negotiate his early release! but yeah we need him in sooner rather than later, but not the only thing that need's to change at McLaren! still going to take time.

You know they've long given up on this year's car ...it will just keep getting worse for the rest of 2018. All we can hopeis there is a significant change in next years car.

We're still in the bottom 3ird of the PU power ratings. These are speeds at the finish line which means we're pretty much pedal to the metal with DRS from a rolling start. Doesn't seem to be a big difference between the B and C SPecs or the Honda PU for that matter.
33 M. VERSTAPPEN 266.7
14 F. ALONSO 266.5
28 B. HARTLEY 266.0
2 S. VANDOORNE 265.2
55 C. SAINZ 264.7
10 P. GASLY 264.5
3 D. RICCIARDO 264.1
27 N. HULKENBERG 263.4

The speed trap is at odd place at Suzuka, the exit of turn 15. Shows more about who's running less df than others more than anything else.

It's the longest straight so I guess makes sense.

In his notebook Ted said Zak might be considering giving Norris the car for the last few races since it's better than seeing Alonso push to the limit and be dead last. But Fernando might like to enjoy possibly his last ever races in F1. Maybe they should give him Vandoorne's car.

Doesn't sound like he's enjoying it. If Zak is considering it ..it's because Alonso's fed up with being at the back.

It only makes sense if you don't really want to know how fast the speeds are at the fastest point on that straight and are really trying to find how much they had to slow down to take that curve.

You can see that Ferrari and Merc are running the most DF

Still think they should give Norris Vandoorne's car if they have to swap drivers. At least with Alonso they have an outside chance at points on some weekends.

I think everyone is flat out through there anyway with these cars so entry speeds dictates speed trap stats more.

But I would really like to see a head-to-head of SV and Lando in a proper racing environment.
We will hear about 'what if' for a couple of seasons now without really knowing
