Scuderia Ferrari SF71H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

How does the author get from sensors inside the engine cover to a revolutionary cooling system for 2019?
Still interesting though.

They have brought a modified front wing to gather data for 2019

Is that so that they are able to run those wings during post season test? (Running them during FP1)

No, no new parts are allowed at the post-season test. It's a 2019 tyre test only.

I do guess that if they run it in FP1, they could run it in the test (as it would not be a new part), or was the rule 'has to have raced'?

The blistering seems to only happen along the tire mold split line (where the two halves of the tire tool meet). I know camber causes uneven wear and should also result in blistering not happening across the entire tire surface. But, in these pictures the blisters are concentrated along the split line. Is this a coincidence?

There's no way that wing is legal under 2019 rules so I wonder what benefit they'd get by testing it?

maybe this wing produces same calculated downforce of 2019 spec, they want to test it with 2019 tyres as stated by press in italy

You’re right, it’s not 2019 width and they’re not allowed to test one that is; but they removed a bunch of the cascades etc. and simplified the end plates just capture the data of those specific elements. I guess it’s still useful to gauge those things in isolation and to verify vs cfd.

I’m interested to see if they try the new floor again; perhaps they already know they it didn’t translate to better laptime now but it’d be interesting to see if they’re still thinking it’s an avenue worth exploring.

So has this front wing been used in FP1? Couldn’t watch it.

I believe they ran it for a couple of install laps to gather data before reverting to the full 2018 spec.

Interesting photo from Abu Dhabi - if you look the mirror, you'll see image that is verticaly split in two parts. Or I'm seeing it wrong...
