A car that cannot be moved needs a crane to lift and remove, when a crane is called for it automatically triggers a safety car.
Not true, the crane was not on the actual track.
Thevsc was created for precisely this situation. We have seen vsc used when cranes are inside the barriers many times before. This was a entertainment sc, no reason for the sc over the vsc.

Yeah, I agree that the SC deployment was as much for entertainment as it was for safety.

That was the reason I started this thread: viewtopic.php?t=28439

Look at the immediate reaction of Hamilton after he lost to Gasly. Keep in mind that the championship is long over already. His hunger and desire seem to be unlimited.

To some people loosing is never acceptable, and even winning sometimes isn't enough. In high-school and college I had races where I smoked the competition and I was still pissed afterwards because I thought I should have run a better time.

I get the feeling Hamilton wouldn't be completely happy even if he was P1 at the end of every practice session, qualifying and race.

I thought that was because what he did to Albon and is kicking himself over it.

Where the race was lost was; after Ham executed the undercut, then got stuck behind Leclerc, which allowed Max to launch an attack, and of course the Mercedes clipping at the end of the straight pretty much sealed things. But all those things had to happen to make Max's pass possible.

Mercedes would have likely messed up the strategy at the last safety car and kept Hamilton out on worm tyres whilst Red Bull would have boxed Max.

A crane is never on track. Always behind fencing lining the track. Nothing and nobody is supposed to be outside the fencing during a race. Once the crane is needed out from behind the fencing lining the track to retrieve a car because the car could not be moved by manpower it automatically triggers a safety car.

it's not really automatic. In Sochi when Seb stopped they needed a crane trackside and they covered it with a VSC.

And even that wasn't really necessary. Yellow flags are supposed to mean people on track slow down, and drivers often carefully park in front of an exit so they could just tow it backwards with a bit of rope, so simple, but Liberty seem to have this idea safety cars that ruin the race are good for the show, and also Michael Masi seems to think the top priority is keeping his ass well covered

In Sochi number 5 FERRARI was pushed behind the fence by 4 marshals under VSC. When the crane went out to retrieve the crashed Williams it did so under safety car.

I have a slightly different view of things. Max was also stuck behind Leclerc (and Kubica, which cost a lot more time)and Lewis just didn't pass Leclerc as efficient as Max did (maybe a bit of luck there). And Lewis used all his battery for his outlap. Him complaining about an empty battery seems rather silly at that point. He knows the battery is empty after an all-out outlap.

And the race wasn't lost there. There was another opportunity for an undercut, and without Kubica and Leclerc, Lewis didn't have a chance at all there.

Oh okay, it doesn't make any difference to the point, whether they have gratuitous safety cars as a policy or ad hoc depending on the race at the time

Quick question- just out of curiosity. Why do you use uppercase for Ferrari and lowercase for all the other teams?

Lewis just didn't have the pace on the second set of softs to get close enough for an undercut. Let's not forget Max had brand new tyres and Lewis' had a lap or two on them.
