McLaren MCL35

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Bargeboard looks so complex in daylight
Do you think it’s a lot different to the launch renders and the launch car at MTC?
A LOT different than renders

I wouldn't say "A LOT" different. There are a few new vertical vanes toward the front of the barge boards but as far as I can see that's it. It's nice that they're adding parts to the car this rapidly

the car really looks amazing on track, looks like they are measuring flow to the front brakeducts, or just protecting, with that metal thing, at the back though, they are meassuring the flow at the floor, please let the numbers be good

Hmm u sure that the bargeboards are very different with the renders?
Ivan said that he spent a lot of effort on their design. So what I'm waiting for here is a big change as the tests progress.

My guess is that it's not for kinematics but to give an acceptable force base to react the cornering forces. The lower arm is attached at wheel centre height more or less. If you attach the upper arm inside the wheel your force base length will only be 100mm or so.

Btw raising the upper arm won't necessarily increase the roll-centre, nor will a higher roll centre necessarily induce understeer. Both of these effects are a function of the complete suspension kinematics, not just the upper arm.
If you raise both arms roll center does go up?
There was something I read that goes: Formula 1 roll centres do not mean much.

Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

The airbox and sidepod shape remind me of the Toro Rosso's from 15-16.

These are not Aero Rakes as they are incorporated into the structure of the car and could be run all season long in this configuration

maybe thats why they are so small and well hidden :-) i didnt think you could either, but these spikes are there to measure for sure, weve seen them before on other cars also, and mclaren used last year during testing, maybe if they use all the way through tesing its legal i dont know

i know some sources say, and i hope its that, because makes absolutely sense to exploit that path when you have a weak frontend, but im still not 100% convinced, since others use a lot more space for their solutions, im not sure if mclaren coud fit it in there, they ran similar solution last year, and yes there seem to be a change in material going from carbon to metal, we will se when there is better pictures, ill se if i can find the picture from last year. It looks like they moved it further out
