With all the spins and off track incidents reported it feels ominous wrt last years unstable car. Hope Albon does not crash it tomorrow

Regarding the coupe of spins, he doesn't sound concerned at all.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/vers ... e/4688209/
"The car is fast everywhere, which is a good thing," said Verstappen about his first impressions of the car.
"And the reliability seems even better, so that is all very positive."
...
"I touched once the gravel I think, that is why I spun," he said. "And once I lost it in the second corner, so these things can happen trying to find the limits with the car and what we can do.
Off-season : keep a lid on it, keep a lid on it, under-promise, over-deliver ...
First test : wow ! this is awesome ! [muffled shout of "someone gag Max quick !"]
Last day of second test : nuts, Merc have turned it up today :-(

OK, just messing about, let's hope RBR-Honda will really take it to Merc and Ferrari from the start of the season. Better a happy driver than not.

Awesome lap count for a first day. They need all days like it to be well prepared and do a proper setup with the new parts. Doing spins may be due to hard compounds, low temps and searching the limits of the car for a better setup. I'm not too worried about that, the car and PU seems good enough so far

The chassis looks more than capable. Lots, and lots of development has greatly moved on from last year. The only question is, can Honda get close to Mercedes not just with peak power but consistency?
Verstappen completed 100 at half of the day. By this way they may also test that too
Well, it's not exactly the pre-season of 2014 where the sound of power tools rang through the air.

I think Red Bull is running less downforce(or at least did today), from observation it looked like that, from the fact S1 was the car strongest and now for it's top speed.

It speaks highly of the chassis work imo, when they put the final aero package this thing will be a beast.

@Capharol, wasn't it you who repeatedly said that it is not about the times during testing,
but about driving as many laps as possible in one day? I agree.
Well, he did a lot of laps, 168! that is what matters, but thanks for these times.
Times currently say nothing at all.

Indeed, but it is also nice to see the consisent times Verstappen laid down on the asphalt, especially his second stint. At least he showed he can drive to a delta very accurately.

Indeed, I only really look at the first time in a stint, how long the stint is, and why time he tries to stay constant at in the stint.

They did the same last year. Started out with a medium downforce package, until a crash wrecked the rear wing. Then they continued with a high(er) downforce one. Obviously they are not only preparing for Melbourne but also for tracks with long straights like China (cancelled) and Baku.
