Ferrari SF1000

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I thought the Ferrari looked pretty neat and tidy so far, not quite the same impressive direction change as RBR but looking pretty steady nonetheless. Feels to me like they are dialling it in gradually and exploring.

Today, Seb was fastest with 329 Kph.
Hmm sounds like tow. Last year in Qualy they only hit 325kph

There is no doubt that it was tow. They’re not doing performance runs yet.

Yes, but even with a tow they were pushing harder, at least the engine.

Haven't seen a overhead comparison of the SF90 & SF1000 so I made one:

Image

Some very apparent things: the top of the sidepods have been closed, mirror-stalks have been upgraded & moved inboard, and a new front-suspension element is visible.

Image

Bargeboard comparisons:

Image

It's about 75% the same as what we've seen in the final race at Abu Dhabi, the fins closest to the floor are all the same. The change in the double boomerang is the most apparent.

Image

Different angle

Image

Not an exact match in camera angles but the new mirror-"stalks" are much more visible here. The leading bargeboard elements closest to the chassis are, as most people observed, much more taller but they are located much farther back than before. The leading elements on the SF90 were shorter but they were almost touching the wishbones.

Why are you sure about that?

I am not sure tow is worth 30Kph. They were hovering around 300 previous days.

They used engine mode 1 today, so far only mode 4 but still no actual pushing.

So in the first 2 days they used mode 4 and today mode 1? Which situations are these modes used in?

Can't really tell, but every time the onboard was shown they were in mode 4 yesterday. Today Vettel was in 1 when he had the PU issue. You can only see that on Vettel's steering wheel though.

Bad news from Mattia Binotto...as mentioned just now during Sky Sport's televised Testing. I"m watching online. Mentioned by Ted Kravitz...

The car is not a Mercedes beater now, but may be by the end of the season.

Will the car be new or different next week at the second test? No, this is the car we will take to Melbourne, with a few changes.

Mood is said to be downbeat.

GREAT.

What is going on here with everyone mentioning this irrelevant interview with Mattia? :)
Whether they're a Mercedes beater or not, but what do you expect Mattia to tell? That they are the fastest? Have you ever heard Mercedes accepting themselves being the fastest? Last year in testing they told that Ferrari were the fastest. Come on...

Engine issue in the morning session. They changed the engine.
