Poor guy Sainz. Looking at yesterday's Ferrari in qualifying, he might be thinking: What have I done?zeph wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020, 04:22I’m actually thinking he’s lucky not to have his contract renewedPlatinumZealot wrote: ↑04 Jul 2020, 15:45Wow. I have been singing praises since last year, they brought the same engine with improvements in reliability and are almost a match for Merc on straights. Mclaren should stick to them instead of jumping ship.
What am I missing here?
When Bottas went off, Hamilton was behind him by a few seconds. He was also setting purple mini sectors and went slower at that very spot where Bottas went off and went slower than his previous lap mini sector (yellow). As soon as he moved beyond that mini sector, he started going faster again.BosF1 wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020, 09:50What am I missing here?
Hamilton comes out of turn 4, sees a lot of dust besides the track and gets a yellow flag. No mixed signals there whatsoever. Than a green flag before entry to turn 5. He hasn't slown down and put down his fastest sector of the whole weekend. How is it he didn't have to slow down? In contrast, Sainz behind him did slow down. No way they could tell if there was or wasn't a car in the gravels with all the dust, like Hamilton stated in the post-qualy interview.
Verstappen is half a second off from Mercedes yet everyone talks how Max can jump them and win. From everything we saw so far, nothing like this will happen and Mercedes will pull out ahead and dominate the race. Let's remember that Mercedes is driving around with DAS and not using it right now. This means they have an ace in their sleeve they haven't played yet.Racer X wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020, 02:51A perfectly timed 2 stop from Max might see him in 1st. But honestly it all really depends on how much of an advantage DAS is.
Either way Racing Point plays a small role tomorrow in putting pressure on the 3rd spot but I'm pretty sure Max and Hamilton won't be bothered by Racing Point.
because there is a difference between 1 lap pace or racepace and .... it will be around 29 degrees again, and not sure if the mercs have solved their cooling problem (which bothered them last year at Austria) and maybe that ACE of them is not so much of an ace as most here thinksFittingMechanics wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020, 10:40Verstappen is half a second off from Mercedes yet everyone talks how Max can jump them and win. This is the part that you missed. Remember Hungary 2016 when 17kph wasn't enough, and hell broke loose on this very forum?BosF1 wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020, 09:50What am I missing here?

Sainz's career wasn't going anywhere anyway. His talent or lack thereof will be his ceiling.selvam_e2002 wrote: ↑05 Jul 2020, 05:52Yes. Sainz career gone once he move to Ferrari. After 2 years they will throw him off.
It is very difficult for them to recover 1sec gap with Hungary update with limited test.
in other hand it is good decision by Ferrari to sack Vettel. He is lucky.
I hope in 2023 Ferrari will do one more restructure to kick out Binotto and Lecrec.
As the engines are same i.e V6 till 2024, Ferrari cannot win till Major engine rule change.
Watching the 2 Mercedes disappear into the distance on such a boring little track isn't really what I'd call a fascinating chess match.Wynters wrote: ↑04 Jul 2020, 23:43It should be a fascinating chess match tomorrow. Will also be good to see how the teams' long run pace holds up. Really looking forward to the race!PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑04 Jul 2020, 23:39Yes definitly one stop..
Pitstop around lap 30 or so.
Max is on mediums but the mercedes has DAS.
And to mention that one lap pace gives them a big advantage on undercuts.
Max goes to soft will be an advantage if he can keep those mediums from graining. Pressure from Racing Point might force him to push too early.
