Corona has more or less already ruined it. This whole year. Just feel lucky we can still watch and we actually had a tense race today.

Mercedes do need to improve the tyre use in hot conditions. That's a given and everyone, including them, would agree.
And all the other teams need to improve their tire management and pace in cooler conditions, your point ?

Perhaps the reason they struggle in conditions like today is becasue they work the tires too hard ? but working the tires "too" hard seems to work for them most weekends, hell it seems to work for them most seasons.

No car is perfect, horses for courses as they say, they all favour some types of track and conditions. Some of the reactions I've ready today are bizar, they should throw away a winning design philosophy chasing performance on a few outliner hot weekends ?

Max won that race by his instinctive "no, I'm not going to drive like a granny" response to the team's telling him to back off. If he had done so, Max might not have won that, or at least not so easily. A good racer's call there and then. Sometimes it bites you, sometimes it gets results.

The RedBull and Ferrari both seem to be easy on the tyres compared to the Mercs. Leclerc's pace was good at the end on very old tyres.
The :not like a grandma" portion of the race did not win anything for max, he did not pass either of the 2 Mercs after he said that, the Merc foolishly pitted, giving him free air and also putting themselves into traffic.

The strategy part of the Merc team is consistently their weakest. They should have stayed out as long as possible in the first stint while holding up VER. They could have won this race with good strategy on Sunday even though they made the wrong choices in Friday and Saturday. Every year Merc throws away at least 2 wins with poor strategy.

Yesterday a lot of people were very bullish about Hulk b/o his P3. I missed part of the race, how did he end up behind Stroll?

If RedBull had not pitted Max last week and 'taken the gamble', they would have WON that GP and Max would have had 7 points more too,
...or his tires would have exploded too and he would have finished around where Bottas did...

Interesting article on AMuS about Merc’s tire troubles.

The Merc engineers said they perhaps over-reacted to their front blowouts last week by choosing a setup that protected the fronts this week. As a consequence, they neglected, and subsequently cooked, the rears early in their stints.

Wouldn’t have mattered if they had different strategies, started on the Hards, etc. Red Bull was just supreme with their set-up, kind on the tires, and Max put in a great drive.

They had Hulk do an extra pit late in the race.

Pirelli made improved, more robust 2020-specification that are designed to handle more downforce but these were specifically rejected by the teams who preferred to use 2019 tyres again. In this case, it can hardly be Pirelli's fault!
Write it completely. Teams had asked Pirelli to manufacture tyres that doesn't suffer thermal degradation, which they failed to do and brought tyres that were way too slower than last year's tyres. So everyone rejected them.
yep, currently has never been able to fully give the teams and liberty/from/FIA what they want.

A few years back when my wife got a new car and we immediately replaced the pirellis that came with it. Just like there F1 tires they degraded exceptionally fast and where garbage in the rain.
Interesting, which pirelli's were they? You replaced them after they were out or with plenty of tread on them?

Wow, some people just can't accept that Mercedes lost fair and square. Can't blame the weather either.
It's funny, they lost fair and square, Max was untouchable, and i'm sure Honda delivered as promised.
It's game on now. Imagine if Max didn't get a DNF in the first GP, I don't think he would have managed a win, but 2nd would have been possible, that would have been 18 points more in the bank, which would get him 95 points total and just 12 points short of Lewis.
If RedBull had not pitted Max last week and 'taken the gamble', they would have WON that GP and Max would have had 7 points more too, so to be fair, it is very reasonable to concider Max could be in P2 in the standings with 102 points, but that means Lewis would have had 7 points less if Max would have grabbed the win the last GP, and that would actually mean Max would be P1 in the standings with 102 points and Lewis P2 with 100 points.

The thing to concider is that this simply means that Mercedes is not at all that dominant for the 2020 season as 'we' all imagined.

Unfortunately for Max, that's not how things went down, and he's 30 points short instead.
Next race is Spain and if it's hot again, Mercedes might finds themselves getting a repeat from last GP.

What's clear aswell though is how much Bottas clearly lacks once again compared to Lewis and Max.
Bottas is even 4 points short of Max and P3 now, 34 points short of his TEAMMATE, despite winning the 1st GP.

It's gonna be an exciting season!
Let's hope NEITHER Max or Lewis contracts Corona (like Perez), that would RUIN the 2020 season.
 You should write for Autosport.

Red Bull up until this race, were struggling to put together their car in a decent way and now suddenly you think Max is a championship contender? Bottas has finished second once in the last 3 seasons despite having a car worthy of championship winning. Just shows he isn't a reference for anyone to say, Oh so and so is second in the championship standings and he is beating Bottas.

Let's me also use some IFs.

If McLaren would have called in early in China 2007, Lewis would have been 7 times champion. If Malaysia blow out wouldn't have happened, he would have been 8 times champion. Similarly, if Schumacher wouldn't have accident in 1999, he would have been 8 times champion. If he wouldn't have had Suzuka blow out in 2006, he would have been 9 times champion.

IF it wouldn't have rained in Styrian GP, most certainly Bottas would have taken pole and won the GP. IF it wasn't for a mistake in Hungary qualifying, where team added more fuel than needed, he would have probably taken pole. IF it wasn't a deceiving lights on his Steering wheel, he would have probably taken second despite losing the start. IF it was not the tyre failure in British GP, he would have most certainly taken second position. With all those IFs, he probably would have been leading the championship. Hope you don't argue my IFs and IMAGINEs are better than your IFs as they are more practical!

IFs and IMAGINEs are like going high without actually going high.

don'e judge Mercedes with this lost. They will come back very strong in next race Spain.

RB is not strong enough to beat Mercedes.

1. Qualy 1.1 sec RB slower than Mercedes
2. Pirelli changed the tire component for 70 British GrandPrix. We never know will they going to keep this tire for renaming races.

don't think RB will challenge Mercedes in Spain. This win could be one off.
