McLaren MCL35

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

We thought that would be the case last race (low DF could kill the tires earlier), but Ferrari had one if not the lowest DF setup and they didn’t struggle as expected.

Still analysing new bargeboard bits,
lets see how it effects S3 performance.

PhillipM you always have great intel. Do you know when the big package is coming? Lando was clear in his interviews this week that McL still has their big package to come vs. Ferrari/RBR/Renault that have already put theirs on, so McL can take the fight to them
There isn't one, floor/bargeboards/some slight wing tweaks this week, refinement work next week, week after there's a new diffuser to match the front end tweaks but nothing extraordinary.
Any intel on updates for this weekend ?

I can’t help but feel we need some more updates- not just ‘tweaks’

The updates did not give the desired performance gain. The fact that the team is researching the bargeboards area for the second weekend means that there are problems with correlation

The last couple of races and today have been a little unrepresentative though. They can not be sure if they are chasing the upgrades the tyres or the wind or heat. They probably need a good clean session to study it

I don’t think it’s a new wing, it is simply the high downforce wing compared to the low downforce wing used in Silverstone.

You're not gonna get any huge packages, the factory is way behind the design office on manufacturing parts, so you're mainly getting the small parts that don't need large changes to the rest of the car as you'd normally get in a big package - hence bargeboards, rear brake ducts, diffuser edges, etc.
