Maybe we can end the discussion about why the not actually incompetent marshalls didn't just push the car backwards.
There is no room there.

Still can't work out the penalty (level) it wasn't deliberate and Ham didn't gain from it so was a 32 sec penalty fair?
10 seconds stop/go is simply the standard penalty for driving into a closed pit lane.
It doesn't matter if it was deliberate or not. If you drive over a red light and get caught, i guarantee you, you can't argue you way out with "oh, but i didn't it deliberatly." You drove over a red light and that's that. Doesn't matter why.
Could you please post the rules stating "this penalty for this infringement" rule ?

Hamilton putting his hand up and accepting his mistake for not seeing the pit closed markers. No blaming others. Good lad.

Why the hell was a safety car activated instead of a virtual safety car?

If I were Merc I'd be having a few choice words with those numpties at race control.
I thought that.
1. Wheel it back under vsc
2. If you weren't gona do that, red flag instead of safety car then red flag
Not sure why Mag parked it there. It was rolling ok and he was at the pitlane entrance. Somewhat odd, although he was obviously hoping the marshall point would allow a simple retrieval - he wasn't to know it could be removed that way.
The first instant I saw magnussen parked there i knew it would be a SC. They would do anything just to have a good race.

Exactly.

Lewis finished 22s off the lead, so clearly he had great pace.

Really hoping the changes down the pipeline clean up the wake and make it easier for cars to follow, as that is ultimately is what hurts the wheel to wheel racing.
I think it was 17s.

It was, you are correct.

It changes nothing yet puts him closer to the pack after his stop. 🤔

Great race from him... Managing to keep Bottas behind him in that last stint in what is a superior car! Nicely done by both Mclaren drivers

SAI has a great race; NOR never made much impact. He never goes out and takes the result.

There's certainly enough room for that car.

Lmao says a lot about this forum that the main topic of conversation is Lewis and whether or not he should have pitted.

Who cares? This is once in a lifetime stuff. Usual business will be resumed next race for everyone here to revel in Lewis and Mercedes excellence.

Meanwhile congrats to Pierre and Carlos in particular. I love seeing the next generation come through. Very cute seeing Charles come and congratulate Pierre too.

Loved this race. FORZA MONZA

With fewer laps to go.

Its robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Literally made no difference if he pitted straight away or after 2 laps.

Sporting regs 2020
28.14 Under exceptional circumstances the race director may ask for the pit entry to be closed during the race for safety reasons. At such times drivers may only enter the pit lane in order for essential and entirely evident repairs to be carried out to the car. A penalty under Article 38.3(d) will be imposed on any driver who, in the opinion of the stewards, entered the pit lane for any other reason whilst it was closed.
38.3 d)A ten second stop-and-go time penalty. The driver must enter the pit lane, stop in his pit stop position for at least ten seconds and then re-join the race.

Without a shadow of doubt TD hit mercedes hard. Not in quali but in race they're very much not flying past people as they used to. Bottas stuck behind lando for the entire race just hovering on ~1s gap and even hamilton had to work hard for most of those overtakes against cars multiple seconds slower than him. Would never have happened before TD. It seems they also decided on a mode too powerful for quali and then couldnt cool the car enough trough the race.
Were we watching the same race?

Mercedes was very fast in qual and even more so in the race. Their car was setup for downforce as they expected to be up front, not overtaking cars.

Did you not see Hamilton up front until the safety car? Utter dominance and he was driving slowly to save the car.
Yeah I just watched a race where bottas couldnt pass a mclaren for 53 laps, unthinkable in previous regs even for Bottas. Mercedes always ran relatively high DF compared to rest of the grid and never had problems overtaking cars, literally almost never, especially not cars that are a second per lap slower.
I take it you missed the part where they said that bottas's car had damage, from lap one?

We’ve seen this same story with Bottas before. On multiple occasions. Think he had damage, too.

Kind of ignoring Hamilton gapped a McLaren by 12s and then went from last in the field to 17s off the lead by the end.
