Actually, they said they want to fight for the 2nd/3rd row of the grid.
I believe they know that they cannot keep those places in a race distance, SF1000 is one of the worst cars regarding tyre management.

I'm not too sure about that honestly... there's been a few races this season where Charles has managed to get a solid result down to great tyre management. Yes, might've been do with the driver more than the car, but it still goes both ways. Maybe in more recent races, Ferrari has struggled a bit due to a lack of upgrades or running the car in different configurations work the tyres more etc (they were useless on the Softs last time out at Nurburgring) but theres been flashes of good tyre management in some of the races.

As for 2nd/3rd row of the grid, 3rd would be realistic... since Mercedes has checked out and the gap to Red Bull is still too large for this season. You only need to look at the gaps at the last race to see how far ahead Mercedes and Max were from the rest of the field, showing the space elevator that Ferrari would need to climb to claw back that kind of performance this year...

I know this year will be a disaster and that any upgrade can not be a big one.
I think no update will change how bad the car is, due to the lack of power of the engine, power around which the aero of the car was built.
Only next year, if an adeguate engine actually arrives, will be better. But better means anyway behind Mercedes, if not Red Bull too.
And, at last, knowing the mind of the president and owner of Ferrari and his love for profits (being a speculator and not a lover of motorsport and not even an industrialist), I think that in 2022 Ferrari will be in the same place as the last 7 years: behind Mercedes (at least).

Floor and diffuser are those with the restrictions of 2021 regulations: no slots in the floor and lower channel walls in the diffuser.

The vertical strakes are also shorter apart from being cut differently, now the 4 middle ones are same hight as the ones from the outside

It also looks like they have a seconds option here with only two vertical strakes

Good eye, Amr.

Indeed the four middle vanes are cut shorter. Possibly more stable with respect to ride height, less disturbance of the vortices from upstream.

That said this upgrade brings me worry. When they fandangle around with fins and flaps means something was wrong in the correlation!

SF1000 doesn't like the softer compounds and especially not in colder conditions. It's always had a front end problem (carried over from last year) and has problems getting the fronts to work

On the mediums/hards it's decent

This is launch spec, only used in the Austrian GP.

Don't know what to make out of this upgrade, especially the floor.

The vertical slats in the diffuser are shortened by 50mm next year.

And the tire squirt-defeating holes in the rear of the floor are also outlawed next year.

These upgrades certainly look very 2021-focused.

I have not understood if this new floor is meant to be used for data acquisition in some FP sessions or if they are going to use in race too.
